Wrong Time Zone on the Garmin Connect Web Site

Whenever I complete a workout using my Garmin Instinct running firmware 5.10, the workout appears on the Garmin Connect web site with its time zone set to GMT -4 Atlantic Time (Canada & Central America), which is wrong. My time zone is GMT -5 Eastern Time (US & Canada) and I have Garmin Connect set to use the correct time zone in Settings -> Display Preferences on the web site.

My watch shows the correct time, the workouts show the correct time (both on my iPhone and on the web site), but the time zone is wrong on the web site. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong or what setting I need to look at, or if this is a bug with either the Instinct or the web site.

Before I contact support I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. I know I can edit the workout to change the time zone which is what I'm doing, but I wonder if there is a way to get it to assign the correct time zone from the start.

Thanks.

I also have had this problem with indoor workouts being uploaded to Connect in the wrong time zone for two different watches. For me it started mid-July. I contacted Garmin and no solution was offered except that a ticket was being created. Has anyone else had any resolution? My watch and Garmin Connect times are set correctly and Connect is programmed to download to the correct time zone.

  • Has anyone else had any resolution?

Not yet. I still have an open case with Garmin and have yet to receive a follow-up.

  • The timing of that coincides with my experience.18th July IIRC, since then every workout with both Fenix and Edge has recorded as “West Africa” time zone. I’m in the UK.

I’ve just ignored it as, I’ll be honest, I gave up reporting bugs to Garmin earlier this year when they told me the metric system was too complicated implement properly for strength exercises. I lost all confidence in their ability to code anything after that admission.

20 days later since they opened a ticket and I still haven't recieved a response on this.

This is very frustrating as i didnt think this bug would be so hard to fix.  What's also scary is I've seen similar threads on this same topic and none has a given a permanent solution.  Some goes back to 3 years ago. Which makes me wonder. How long has this bug being around and I'm sure by now garmin has been made aware of this bug but they're doing nothing about it...

Let's just say i will never buy another garmin product from now on.

Its ridiculous that a smartwatch cant even show the right time..

I'm not thrilled that this issue exists, but I'm not ready to give up my device over it. That's a bit of an overreaction, if you ask me. Updating the time zone has just become second nature now when I review the workout on the web site.

You're right. I overreacted a bit. But until they solve this software bug,  I'm going to hold off on buying a new watch from them like the fenix 6.

It's a nuisance to manually correct the time after every workout dont you think?

I do strength training more than running so if I do multiple indoor workouts I gotta change the time for each of them otherwise when I look at my hear rate trend its completely off from the activity icons shown at the bottom.

Dont settle for less. You paid good money for this watch (2x apple watch) and it's not wrong to expect better performance.

The least they can do is post a thread stating they're aware of this bug and looking for a way to fix it. Rather than pretending this issue doesnt exist and just create tickets for nothing. With no intention to respond or provide status update.

Not really, since I edit my workout anyway to add gear that I track. Do I want it to work correctly without my intervention? Of course.

I'm not settling. I still expect it to be fixed, but in the meantime I'm not going to stop using my device or the services even if it means I have to tweak the time zone manually.

I went back and checked my data...looks like for me, this is non-GPS (i.e. indoor) and non-imported (i.e. doesn't impact Zwift records) as of July 16...prior to July 15, 2019, all of my non-GPS activities recorded with my Forerunner 935 had the correct time zone (PST). Everything after that date is Mountain Time.

Annoying, but as others have stated, not earth-shattering, since I'm always in adding notes to my workouts anyway.

  • I can confirm it seems to be a problem on the Garmin Connect side as the issue is still there with my new Fenix 6. That July 2019 time frame also sounds about the same as when I identified the issue. I was also in a different time zone than my home last week and an indoor activity recorded with a different, but still wrong, time zone than what I usually get when home.

Is there any way to change the time zone of an activity in Garmin Connect Mobile, or are we forced to go through the website to correct this incorrect data?

I have not been able to find a way to edit the time zone in GC Mobile.
