Wrong Time Zone on the Garmin Connect Web Site

Whenever I complete a workout using my Garmin Instinct running firmware 5.10, the workout appears on the Garmin Connect web site with its time zone set to GMT -4 Atlantic Time (Canada & Central America), which is wrong. My time zone is GMT -5 Eastern Time (US & Canada) and I have Garmin Connect set to use the correct time zone in Settings -> Display Preferences on the web site.

My watch shows the correct time, the workouts show the correct time (both on my iPhone and on the web site), but the time zone is wrong on the web site. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong or what setting I need to look at, or if this is a bug with either the Instinct or the web site.

Before I contact support I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. I know I can edit the workout to change the time zone which is what I'm doing, but I wonder if there is a way to get it to assign the correct time zone from the start.

Thanks.

I have this same exact problem on both watches. 1st and replacement Garmin sent.

After i noticed this weird glitch, i contacted Garmin customer service and the rep asked me to run a few sample tests and have noticed it right away that something weird is going on, so he agreed to send me a brand new replacement watch. Well, after i received my replacement and hours of setting it up, it's also having the same issue as the first one. Non GPS activity always show a different time zone than what i set it to be.

I called in the second time and another rep noticed it and put me on hold while she consulted with her team. After 10 mins she said she need to do some additional offline testing to see if the bug is in my account or the software itself.

I suggest that if you're experiencing this bug, please call Garmin and bring it up to them. They need to be aware of this issue!

The more people call in to complain about this, the sooner it will be corrected.

So i basically paid for shipping costs and putting $218 on hold for nothing. I shouldve held on to my original watch.

Anway, you're not alone in this. Please give them a call and escalate this to their software team.

  • Thanks. I was beginning to think that I was the only one experiencing this issue. I recorded a test exercise outside so it would use GPS, and that showed up with the correct time zone. I was going to try a test exercise in the morning indoors to see if something changed, but based on your post it sounds like non-GPS exercises will have the wrong time zone.

I’ll call as soon as they are available to take the call, which I assume is Monday.

You can quickly check on your phone by recording a strength or any non GPS workout and let it load to your phone. Once it's done, review the workout via the Garmin connect app and check the time on the upper left corner.  For me it's wrong 100% of the time, but any outdoor GPS app show the correct time.

I just received an email after the call today and they said they have created a ticket and informed their engineering team and will let me know as soon as they figure it out.

Sounds to me like this is a software issue and not many people have spotted this bug since they all expect a watch to function like a watch and dont look into the detail.

  • I have had this problem with all my Garmin watches for a couple of years now. The GPS tracked activities are all in the correct Central European timezone, but the ones without GPS tracking are in the South African timezone which is an hour later then the Centra European timezone. All my settings are correct, i have checked that many times on all Garmin watches i owned.

It amazes me that this issue has been around for this long without a permanent fix from garmin. Did you just learn to live it with it or how did you fix it?

  • I spoke with Garmin support this morning and the rep had me record a new, non-GPS workout and then let it upload. I did, and she then saw it, downloaded it, and added it to her GC account. She was able to confirm that there is something wrong, and in her case the time zone was two hours off whereas mine is one hour off.

I sent her some logs and she has escalated the issue to the developers. I’m not going to hold my breath, but perhaps they will work this out sooner or later.

  • I have the exact same issue. It started about 1-2 months ago. All GPS activities are correct, but activities without GPS are now uploading in the Central Time zone (I live in the Mountain Time zone and have that selected in my GC Web settings).

The activities record with the correct time on the watch (if I look at the activity history on the watch), but once it gets to Garmin Connect, it is the wrong time.

This is on a Fenix 5 Plus. I just ordered the Fenix 6, so I'll report back whether I see this same issue or not on the new watch.

  • Also, anyone know the best way to submit bugs or feature requests for Garmin Connect Web? There seems to be a few bugs and missing features (lack of feature parity with the mobile app) that I'd love to run by them.

  • The watch shouldn't be the cause of the issue. I see time zone errors on uploads from my Instinct, but I also see time zone errors on uploads from previous workouts with other devices including an Apple Watch.

  • For reporting bugs, I would either call or chat: support.garmin.com/.../
