Add more generic, custom, and machine exercises

In Garmin Connect, there are VERY specific types of weight exercises - we need more generic ones.

Search for "Chest Press" and you get:

* Chest Press with Band
* Kettlebell Chest Press
* Swiss Ball Dumbbell Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press
* Single-arm Cable Chest Press
* Alternating Dumbbell Chest Press

...but no plain old "Chest Press"!

Another one: "Back Extension" nets you:
* Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach
* GHD Back Extensions
* Weighted GHD Back Extensions
* Static Back Extension
* Single-leg Back Extension
* Weighted Static Back Extension
* Weighted Single-leg Back Extension
* Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Swiss Ball Back Extension
* Weighted Back Extension with Opposite Arm and Leg Reach

...and no plain old "Back Extension"!

I would suggest this list, based on a typical "LifeFitness" circuit of 10 machines:

* Back Extension (tonnes of far too specific options, as listed above)
* Leg Extension (exists already)
* Seated Leg Curl (weighted leg curl exists)
* Seated Row ("weighted row" exists, as do more specifics)
* Chest Press ("Chest Press with Band" is the closest)
* Lateral Raise (exists)
* Biceps Curl ("Curl" is the closest)
* Triceps Extension (exists)
* Abdominal Crunch (only "Weighted Crunch" exists)

Perhaps others have suggestions for machine workouts that should exist - take a cruise around your gym and suggest ones that aren't already in Garmin Connect.

  • This thread started 6 years ago, and what are the results?

    I'd be happy to just be able to add my own excerise set names, but no we can't even do that.

  • Thank you for your payment. Enjoy your new watch. Hey Garmin could you please add...*Crickets* Crickets*

  • There are more exercises than there used to be. But yes, being able to add a custom exercise would be ideal. Currently I just find one that is close to what I want, using the same type of equipment (machine, barbell, dumbbell, etc.) and impacting the same muscle group, then make a note in the workout regarding what the exercise really is.

  • Hi Team,

      When trying to update the workouts performed , i see few are missing mainly many kettlebell variations..e.g. Seal rows -> This is an incline kettlebell row..

    Is there a way for me to add my own workouts or can Garmin look at Kettlebell workouts holistically and add them ?

  • Is there a way for me to add my own workouts or can

    You can add your own workouts, but the database of exercices available is static. You can request specific exercises here - Share Ideas | Garmin Hopefully, if Garmin gets enough requests for the same exercise, they might be added. It has happened in the past.

    Otherwise, I usually look for something close that uses the same equipment and impacts the same muscle group, then make a note in Garmin Connect what the exercise actually is.

    Also, have a look at this, as it might be helpful to locate what you're looking for - GARMIN CONNECT EXERCICES - Google Sheets

  • How can I include new exercises on list of exercises. For example, I couldn't find ABDUCTION MACHINE.

  • the only choice that I am aware of for that is "Weighted Standing Hip Abduction " (or Adduction) --- gets the mucsle group correct... stupid they are not more normal/basic.... "Weighted Hip Abduction" who cares if you are standing or not!  Similar to Rear Fly .... they ONLY have kneeling rear fly ! WTH!?  with no mention of the term 'delt' or 'deltoid' lol

  • I would also love to have more basic exercises, like chest press, or generic terms. And I would also love to be able to create exercises with my own words.

  • Hi everyone, I was considering buying the garmin and I was exploring garmin connect from the web. I was entering my training card sent by the coach but I noticed that most of the exercises are not present in the list. What can I do?

  • You cannot add custom exercises. Personally, I would use an exercise that works the same muscle group, then use the notes section to describe what the exercise actually is.

    Keep in mind that some exercises may have multiple names. It’s possible that what you’re calling it might be listed under a different name in Garmin Connect. If you have specific exercises you can't find, let us know. Also, you can submit a request to add specific exercises using Share Ideas | Garmin. If enough requests are submitted yours might get added.

    You can also refer to these sites to search for exercises:
