Plotting "Training Effect"

I really like the "training effect"! With any sort of metric like that I see it as a challenge to hit the max (ie 5.0). Maybe this option can't be provided because it would make it too easy for other companies to copy the "training effect", but it would be awesome to see a plot of the "training effect" going up in Garmin Connect. I don't pay attention to the training effect until I'm done with the workout (mostly because I want to use all the fields on the watch for other information) so I'd like to be able to go back and analyze the workout and see when I hit 5.0 and which parts of the workout had the biggest impact on hitting 5.0 (or just generally going up).

Thanks!
  • Firstbeat Sports Individual software will show you that.

Are you aware that a TE of 5 is defined as; Overreaching
This activity was very demanding. While it can significantly improve your cardiorespiratory fitness, it can become harmful without enough recovery time and should be done sparingly.

What is the goal of you training? At the moment you seem to be trying your best to permanently injure yourself.
  • I'm sure there are lots of cool features, but $300 is a bit much (for me). I guess I'll just have to sacrifice one of the fields on my watch and monitor my TE during the workout.

I'm aware that 5.0 is considered "Overreaching", but just like most things geared towards the general public I feel it is pretty conservative. I hit 5.0 a lot and don't ever feel anywhere near injury.

Then maybe you need to make sure your heart rate settings are correct. If you're at TE5, then you should be at close to maximal effort. It's an intensity you simply cannot maintain for too long.

TE5 should best only be done during contest. Otherwise indeed, you are pushing yourself too much with too high risk for injury or getting too tired...
  • With the algorithm getting better and better, I trust it more than before, then I would be interested to have this kind of graph in my post-workout analysis +++

  • YOu might be able to use AppBuilder5 to record the training effect over time and then it will graph on garmin connect.
