Now with 7.70 and heart strap, training data sporadically faulty. (FR235)

Following my Forerunner 235 problems with wrist based HR while cycling (which was broken by 7.6 and not fixed in 7.7 - see here https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/running/forerunner-235-aa/1349619-new-firmware-new-hr-problem ) I contacted support about this and they claim it is a known firmware issue - no time given for a fix.

I decided to get a heart monitor strap.

Now my training data (Calories used, and Aerobic training effect) sporadically record very low. See the screenshot. Working days, these rides are my commute (around 8.3 miles in the morning, and 8.3 or 9.5 ish in the evening). Longer rides at the weekend.

Normally the commute rides are around 300 calories +60 / -30 ish. Training effect ranging from around 2 to around 3.5.

However, some of the rides record less than half the normal calories with a training effect of exactly 1.0 - even though time/distance/average HR are normal. I've checked time in zones, and there is no correlation to the time in green. Basically these rides seem not to be recording any workout calories.

This, together with the wrist based HR problems is rendering the watch not fit for purpose. Anyone any idea what is going on? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1367946.png
