Sleep tracking not working properly since update

Hi, wondering if anyone else is having this.

Since the update to register REM sleep, my watch now stops my sleep time if I wake up during the night. If I wake up and get out of bed to use the bathroom, in the morning my sleep will have ended at that time.

It's happened the last two nights - my sleep ending at 01:30, and 03:20, both times I know I got out of bed. This didn't happen before, I would just get the indications that I had spent time awake, but it would show when I went back to sleep and registered my real waking up in the morning accurately.

I suspect that there's something going on, as I don't get move alerts during this time (unless these are automatically turned off during the sleeping hours set in the watch?).

Right now the only solution I can think of is to not make the walk to the bathroom, but I don't think the girlfriend would be too happy about that

Same problems here, used to be good, since the Advanced Sleep Monitoring update absolutely useless. It doesn't track sleep/ awake periods accurately and hardly ever see any deep sleep. Sometimes a few slivers of REM, I'm not a sleep Dr., but doesn't a person need to reach deep sleep to get to REM?
  • Same problem here, with the 935. However, I got it recently, so I have never seen it working properly even. 7 minutes of deep sleep registered, out of 9 hours of sleep.
  • Hi.. I have this issue with my Fenix 3 since an update to the watch about 10 days ago... I hope to get this back with the next update.

This is the answer I have gotten from Garmin to way to many sleeping hours. Absurd for a 800€ watch, not being able to the basic of a 200€ Smartwatch!!
    --------
Our watches that detect sleep are designed to look at restful states about 2 hours prior to the scheduled or set sleep time in your Connect account. For example, if you are very still either in bed or on the couch watching TV or reading a book before going to sleep it may view this as sleep time.

If so you may need to adjust the sleep time to avoid the watch thinking you are asleep. There is no other setting to adjust or way to manually put the watch in to sleep and wake mode unfortunately.
  • I finally got Tech Support to open a ticket about the sleep tracking problem (in my case, Instinct, and FR935 before that). If everyone contacts them directly, that might help get a fix.

I have a VivoActive HR that sleep information suddenly stopped collecting data for after 16 months of use. I did start a chat session with Garmin support and they had me open 'Garmin Express' and connect my device. My information then went through and I can see my sleep details for the last 3 days. apparently something was stuck in the sync queue and running Garmin Express software and syncing through that cleared the error.

Never had a chat session with support for any product be that helpful that quickly.
  • my vivoactive HR won't track sleep for the past 2 weeks now, I contacted support and did full reconnect/reinstalled drivers on laptop and synced through garmin connect but it still does not work. It does not track my HR during sleeping hours at all. Pretty frustrated as the garmin connect app has been pretty abysmal as well for the past two years straight. Going to switch to whoop strap soon as I mainly use for resting HR/sleep data and not so much for activities anymore.

This seems to describe my problem. I’m now in my second Vivoactive 3 in a month. Both fail to record sleep correctly, although they both will start (or stop) sleep recording at the time that I visit the bathroom. Usually, though, I’m back to sleep within minutes.

  • You realize that sleep statistics use data from the watch but the actual calculation of sleep results is performed in web Connect.

I didn’t know this. Thanks for sharing, but what is the significance of it?
