Garmin Connect Report broken or bad change

As of yesterday (5/31/18) the Progress Summary under Reports on the Garmin Connect website has changed and has become nominally useless. I am referring to the report that we get to when we select Reports -> Progress Summary -> then Filter by: "Activity". Prior to 5/31 it would display the totals for each literal activity, now it summarizes to just a few high level activities and does not let you see totals for what I'd call sub-activities. For example:

- Cycling has many forms. I use both Mountain Biking and Road Cycling. The report previously showed a line for each, now it just shows a line for "Cycling" and smashes the numbers all together. That is useless information as they are two different Activity types.

- There are over 30 completely different Activities under "Other" from Tennis, to Skiing, to Rock Climbing, etc.. This report gave a line for each activity previously which is what is should do. Now it just gives a line for "Other" and sums them all together. That is adding up things that have absolutely no commonality or meaning summed together. The report needs to show as it did previously.

See the photo attached if my description is not clear.

Is anyone else seeing this change? Is there a setting I'm missing that somehow changed that I need to correct to get the report back to what it was (Customize is not it, that is just fields shows, not the Activities list)?

  • Saturday, June 02, 2018, 1:39 PM I am also having problems with the latest changes to Garmin Connect "Reports".. Prior to this week I was able to generate Reports for a specific sub-group of Walking, ex. Speed Walking. I have a weekly activity that I categorize upon uploading my watch data to Garmin Connect as "Speed Walking". I was previously able to generate Reports for Speed Walking by any custom date, now I only see all activities under the general Walking category. What happened? Is Garmin Support aware of this decline in functionality?
  • I agree. The Progress Report feature is now useless for anyone who pursues multiple activities within a top-level category - particularly in the catch-all "Other" category.
  • I also have issues with the Run Cadence fields - figures are just wrong. They were fine a week or so ago. Garmin should fix this asap.

Fully agree. Progress report is not usable for me anymore.

I do road cycling, mountain biking and indoor cycling.

For indoor cycling I do not have all the measurements like distance and cadence. For example the average speed is now very low because it combines the road cycling and indoor cycling.

Also I want to see my progress specifically on road-cycling (how is my average speed and cadence progressing). This is now not possible anymore.

Please bring back the option to select sub-activities like road cycling.

Has Garmin responded on this yet? I too need my summary of Road Cycling like in the past. The current format is useless as pointed out in the posts above.
  • Yes, I called and talked with someone. I had to point him to this string and another on this same forum. His response was that there are only a few people expressing concern on this so not a big deal. I sent an email and got this reply:

I am sure you are not the only one that wants this feature. If you would like to add to the numbers you can submit your ‘idea’ to the link below. If there is enough demand they may feel inclined to make a change.
There is a specific team that reviews these and escalates the information.

They don't get it. They destroyed functionality. Clueless.
  • I sent a note back to Garmin expressing the concern that the point was missed. This is not a request for new functionality, it's a request to return to what was there. Kudos to Bea, she understood and here is her reply:

I would be happy to continue support today. Though I am not sure if they did this on purpose or if this was by accident. Either way, I have escalated this issue to get confirmation. If it was on purpose and they see an influx of users wanting this feature back they may be inclined to change it. If a resolution is reached, we will be in contact. If you have any other questions or require further support please do not hesitate to let us know or visit our support center (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/).

This is a really bad change... the report is useless... I want to now the mountainbike data in the summer without the indoorcycling from the winter.
