Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

  • It would be great if we could have a list of what counts for each badge. Are some badges only awarded if using a specific device? I am aware that changing the activity type will not generate a badge. How on earth does anyone get a "Wingsuit" activity badge? Do you need a specific device to get intensiy minutes? How do you get Shred The Gnar? What is the maximum over distance for a set run / bike ride? I'd hate to run 115 miles and not get the 100 mile badge and simlarly don't want to stop and restart my watch just to get a badge. Why don't you get all the badges up to the level of the activity? Eg, I did a 35 mile ride today with 2500 feet. Got the 2000 feet badge but not the 1000 feet badge or the 10 mile ride badge.
  • I finally received the "Well Rested" badge. I got it in the last couple of days but it says I earned it on 9 April. They must have fixed what was not working.

    I think I now have all the badges I should have.

    The Badges were only introduced in early April 2018 and apply to activities after that date. You also need to make your activities public.

    You already have that list, in effect, by reviewing the ‘available’ badges in your Garmin Connect account. What you cannot have is a list of all the programmatic exceptions in the system that would ‘override’ the stated qualifying criteria and make something not count; it does not work the other way around, i.e. if you achieve the primary/simple criterion for a badge it will override all other considerations, such that you would be assured of receiving it.

    Okay, that is a manual workaround, thanks! But the feature does not works as designed. Something for the vBCms Comments-Forum (Where nothing happens for a long time).

    Ok, I have made the one public, thsi was end of April. My one connection ran same race and has badge.

  • Here's some good news - the bug that the Double Duty badge disappeared when you delete a random activity seems to be fixed. Thanks!

    Thanks for continued discussion about badges. We are working quickly to resolve the outstanding issues and award the badges that are missing.

    We have an update for Garmin Connect coming in the very near future that will resolve many of the issues that caused badges to not be awarded automatically. The teams are still following up to award the badges that were earned. I do not have a timeline on when all of the badges will be reprocessed, but the work is ongoing.

    There will be several fixes for badges in the next update, but the most noteworthy fixes will be for activities where the activity type was changed and badges being awarded for TCX uploads. Currently, if you record an activity on a device that doesn’t have a specific activity profile or using a TCX device (Forerunner 410 or Edge 705 for example) you are not getting badges awarded automatically. When the fix goes into place you will be able to change the activity type and get the badge, and TCX files will be processed for badges.

    One issue that will not be fixed in the next update is, badges not being awarded for activities that are uploaded from 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] party platforms such as Zwift. This work is still being done and will be included in a future update.

    And finally, as a reminder, badges for activities will only be awarded for new activities that were uploaded after the release of the badge redesign. Activities completed prior to April 4 will not be automatically awarded badges.

    I will post back in this thread when the update for Garmin Connect has been pushed to production.
