Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

    Just wondering - has anyone here been awarded these missing badges yet?


    Yes, got my step badges the day after I wrote here. Don´t knew if Garmin checked my account only and added them, or if they done something else to make it happen?

    A few of mine seem to be working ok now, I shared an activity last night and got the thanks for sharing badge, even before i'd finished writing the post

    Hi Joey,

    - A friend and I completed 3 connection challenges on Monday. I beat him in two (running and steps) and he beat me in one (cycling. Normally this would lead to ultimate champion badges but we did not neither of us received the badges this time. Also of not. In the app notification we shared first place on all challenges despite there being clear winners.

    - Today I improved my V02 max runningscore. I figured that would net me the Well Oiled Machine badge, but I did not receive the badge.

    I completed a half marathon on the weekend and it did not record as a badge. My watch recorded 12.99 for the mileage but it was a sanctioned event and I updated my mileage and time to match the official record. You have permission to access my account. Thank you, Kevin

    Hello, I purchased a new device (vivosport) and added and received the badge for adding it but did not receive a badge or retiring my vivosmart hr. I can add a photo if needed.

    Although there's an option for your Public Profile to display Badges, they don't seem to be visible unless you're logged in. It also doesn't display "Personal Records" unless you're logged in. The other options (Last 12 Months, Lifetime Totals, etc) all seem to display as intended.

    ***May 4 Update***
    Reports of badges not being awarded as expected continues to be investigated. After conversations with the teams regarding badges, we wanted to provide a general update.

    Early Riser Badge: There was a discrepancy between the description of the badge and the requirement that was set on the backend so that the badge would be awarded (the discrepancy has since been corrected). To earn the badge the activity needs to have been started prior to 7 am (and after 4am). We have tracked the reports for users that did activities after 7 am and expect to earn the badge. We will work to get this badge added to the account. I do not have a specific timeframe on when this work would be completed, and we will reach out to those users with more information when it is available. If you are interested in quickly getting the badge, you would just need to start an activity prior to 7am.

    Distance Badges: We are looking into the reports of distances badges not being recorded, and we appreciate the specific examples that have been provided. There was a miscommunication regarding how to earn a distance badge. We previously indicated that the distance had to be at or very near the required distance. The feature is designed to work so that the badge is earned when the activity is greater than or equal to the distance for the specific badge but less than the next distance. This explains the differences in experiences that have been discussed in this thread. For example, to earn the 5K Run badge you must have an activity that is equal to or greater than 5 kilometers and less than 10 kilometers.
    We are still working to improve the experience for activities where there was an edit, such as changing the activity type. This will impact badges such as Shred the Gnar, On The Rocks, or where a cycling activity was recorded on a device that doesn’t have a dedicated cycling profile and then changed in Garmin Connect later. Also distance badges are not being award for activities that occurred prior to the launch of the new feature on April 4.

    Challenge Badges (examples: Join the Movement, Challenge Accepted, etc.): These badges are awarded at the completion of the challenge, as has been discussed in this thread. This prevents someone from joining a challenge to get the badge and then leaving prior to the completion.

    I Am The Night: To earn this badge an activity will need to be recorded between 10pm and 3:59am.

    Double Duty Badge: There is still a bug that can cause this badge to disappear from Garmin Connect if an activity is deleted from the account.

    Thanks for Sharing: (05/07/2018 Update) The issue that caused this badge to not be awarded should now be resolved. If you share another activity we would expect that the badge would be awarded.

    Networking: This badge is awarded when sharing with Facebook or Google. This allows users to search for connections through those services. If you have connected your accounts to one of these services and still don’t have the badge, let us know.

    Yin and Yang: The issue causing this badge to not display correctly has been resolved.

    Goal Badge: Still investigating why this isn’t being awarded to some users.

    I am continuing to follow along this thread and we are investigating all reports, even though I didn’t specific mention every badge that is being looked at.

    There was also an issue late last week and over the weekend that cause some latency in badges being awarded. This resulted in many of the step badges to not be awarded at the time the data was synced to Garmin Connect. This should be resolved and you should see the badges for Stepping Up, Intensity Minutes, Beat Yesterday, and other Step/Health badges.
