Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

Thank you for the continued discussion and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

How does one earn the "Shred the Gnar" badge for mountain biking? I went mountain biking with my Fenix 3 this weekend and could only choose biking as an option.

The only way to get the Shred the Gnar badge with a fenix 3 would be to change the activity category after uploading the activity. This is not currently assigning the badge, but is being worked on.
  • I should have gotten the Early Riser badge for this:

and the Members Only/Challenge Champ badges for this:

    • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with): Twitter, Mail, Facebook, SMS, Eveything...
    • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)? Yes

    2.-
  • We are actively looking into these reports. I don't have a specific timeline, but I know that this is something that is actively being worked on. I can't say for sure right now why your activities are not getting badges, but will reach back out when we have the answer.

Much appreciated joey. Its only a small fault but frustrating all the same thanks for ur. N reply
  • We look at historical life time totals for some of the step badges, but don't look at any historical activities for the activity badges.

How come you chosed this behavior? I guess if I import them again I get the badge? (haven't tested this...)
  • You won't get a a 5 mile badge for 6.25 since the way the feature is set up would require you to record an activity at or near the described distance for each badge.

so how near to the described distance do you have to be, surely the fairest way of doing this would be to to put a statement in the code that awards the badge like:

IF>5 miles AND <10 Miles then award 5mile badge

Personnaly i would say any distance between each badge should award the badge of the lower distance as you've actually done what the badge description says
  • Personnaly i would say any distance between each badge should award the badge of the lower distance as you've actually done what the badge description says

That makes much more sense than how it seems to "work".

Hi Joey, this does not seem consistent with what I have been seeing. If we look at a the 5 mile badge for Martinr2's 6.25 mile activity, this is 125% of the badge level. Looking at some of the activities I have been awarded badges for:

    5K Run badge (3.1m) for a 5.85 mile run (189%)
    10K Run Badge (6.2m) for a 7.83 mile run (126%)
Half Marathon Badge (13.1m) for a 22.2 mile activity (168%)
Marathon Badge (26.2) for a 30.3 mile activity (116%) - but not awarded the 50K badge for this activity (which is -2% from badge level)

I think the key to understanding these issues is understanding the tolerance(s)/cutoffs for which badges are awarded (like +/- x miles, or a percent, or >= badge distance by x).

    Thanks,
    Tom

Cheers, this is why I gave the very simple IF/AND statement in my previous post then for say the 5 mile badge (cycle 5 miles in a single activity) any distance between 5 & 9.99 miles would get you the badge as you would have met the criteria

One wonders whether Garmin ran Beta tests on these badges before they released them....................
