Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

  • Did you just join this? I didn't get my actual badge after I joined until the following Monday when the results were posted.



    OK, I got the badge when the challenge ended.
  • I took part in a Running distance challenge this weekend. The other person has an older Garmin and uploaded an activity, which was initially recorded as a Run, which was then corrected to a Hike.

    However, the badge system has not taken this change of activity type into account when determine the winner.

  • What about historical activities, I have some runs around 1 mile (during warm up or broken up runs) but I still havent got the 1 Milestone badge. I also have like umpteen runs from marathons and up to 100 miles and none is rewarded...apart for part of last years UTMB where I got the 40 and 50 K step badges?!
  • How does one earn the "Shred the Gnar" badge for mountain biking? I went mountain biking with my Fenix 3 this weekend and could only choose biking as an option.

    Joey, could you please advise at what time of day the ‘I Am the Night’ badge stops being awarded and ‘Early Riser’ becomes applicable?

    I recorded a short, dummy activity (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2635751007) at thirteen minutes past midnight local time, and got awarded the former instead of the latter.


    The expectation should be that if you record an activity and it fits the time frame for either Early Riser or I Am the Night that you would get the badge. There appears to be a issue with how the activity is being process and your time zone could potentially be throwing that off.

    I am adding this experience to the open ticket so that it can be looked out to be figured out what is occurring.

    Well oiled machine not awarded. 2639110928. VO2 Max improved from 50 to 52. Permission to view my account data. Also not getting Thanks for Sharing badge even though I've shared activities via email and Google+. Unable to create a segment for the Trailblazer badge (link is missing from Garmin Connect activities), but pretty sure this is due to the fact that my Garmin account is linked to Strava and I use Strava segments. Would also love to know how to record a drone activity.


    We are looking into the issue with you not getting the Well Oiled Machine badge (can you unlock the activity link so that we can take a look?).

    When you shared your activity did you do it on GC web or the GCM? If GCM, are you on iOS or Android.

    I'm looking into the Trailblazer badge. This may only be a Garmin Segment option as you indicated.

    Currently the only way to earn the drone badge would be to record an activity and change the activity category after uploading. Changing the activity category is not awarding badges currently, but this is being looked into.

    We don't have any device that has a drone activity profile. One option for recording a drone activity would be to use one of our GPS enabled Virb action cameras attached to a drone. After the recording session you could upload the .FIT file to Connect.

    We are actively looking into these reports. I don't have a specific timeline, but I know that this is something that is actively being worked on. I can't say for sure right now why your activities are not getting badges, but will reach back out when we have the answer.

    Is there a way to turn the badges OFF? I hate them, I don't want to see them at all, they just take up space. Please make this an option.


    There currently is not a way to turn off the feature. You can remove any badges widgets from your Garmin Connect dashboard and turn off the badge notification setting in Garmin Connect Mobile. We have provided this feedback to the team since there have been other users that have made similar requests.

    No information at this time if there will be any option to turn off the feature in Garmin Connect, but we will post back in this thread if anything changes.
