Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Former Member
Former Member

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

Thank you for the continued discussion and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

06/19/2018: A new update has been posted here.

  • No, don't share your credentials.

Zwift is the explanation. It will not give you any progress. You must log your rides with a Garmin watch, bike computer or Tacx app.

  • Well, that is not fair, not right and Garmin should change it. It is a cycling activity, and moreover on the badge details it is not mentioned Zwift can not be used if you want to earn it!

  • I Was Not Awarded a Badge for an Activity or Challenge I Completed

The activity recorded needs to be saved and uploaded directly to Garmin Connect and cannot come from a third-party app or website such as Zwift.

  • There are several rules (link posted by seilogramp) and they can't all be written in the description. You have to ask Garmin to change the rule, but that will not help with these challenges and for the current challenges. I don't think that Garmin will change that rule any time soon since this has been an ongoing discussion in this forum for many years. It usually pops up a few new discussions every winter when the users do more indoor cycling.

Always follow the progress for the challenges. They will update right away. If you don't see any progress then something isn't working as it should and needs to be fixed immediately. Challenge data can only be fixed during the challenge period so you need to act fast.

For Zwift rides there are ways to make them count, but you need to do some work with switching the device with the help of 3rd party services. Another possibility is to disconnect Zwift from Garmin and also log your ride with a Garmin device and only let it sync with Garmin Connect.

  • That is very sad Garmin does not support Zwif rides.. Thank you Andy.

Is SUITO trainer, or what is that device called, compatible with TACX app.? If so, I am going to try TACX applicatiion later today.

  • Garmin states "The NOTE: Third-party trainers are not compatible.", but test it and see what happens. I still believe it supports sensors from other brands. Maybe not smart trainers. You might also test with ANT+ vs bluetooth and see what works.

Tacx Training App Compatibility and Requirements

  • You might also test with ANT+ vs bluetooth and see what works.

Just note that for ANT+ sensors, you'd need an ANT+ dongle on the computer (if using the desktop version of Tacx), or a phone with ANT+ receiver (if using the mobile phone Tacx app). Once you connect individual sensors to the Tacx app, select any of the "virtual trainers".

  • I got to 9/10 on the runner graduate badge when I finished the 5k training and now I started a 10k coaching plan and it threw out all of my 9/10 progress and set me back to 1/10. I don't even like doing these coaching things, I just want the badge, this is very frustrating.

  • You can get that badge very easily. Start a coach plan. Then every day you run you pick one workout from the training calender. It doesn't have to be schedule for today. Then just run. You don't even have to follow the steps. The important thing is that you start the workout and then save it. When you got the badge you just quit the plan.

  • Can I do them all in one day then? I suppose tomorrow I'll just do 9 runs in one single day.
