Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

Thank you for the continued discussion and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the fast reply, another hike is always welcome Slight smile

Just for the record, I did try the official support. Care to take a guess on their reply? Reset your watch...

Hi, you are quite right. I was lazy not to add this information because the previous badge was awarded and both activities had exactly the same data filelds filled-in (meanwhile that badge disappeared) so I will try to add as much data as possible and see the result.

    Many thanks for the hint!

    trux, you were spot on!

Adding data to the "Floors" field makes the "Ascent" data appear. This value seems to be calculated based on the number of floors added and it seems to be what the algorith is looking for. Forget about the real ascent based on the barometer.

Following your suggestion, I added 74 floors to the 334ft activity and I got an interesting inconsistency: a barometric-calculated elevation gain of 106 meters, with a floor-claculates Ascent of 228 meters. The badge awarded was the one for the 228 metres (735 ft) and apperead within seconds of saving the edit.

So, in short, the following seems to be valid: To ensure the desired Virtual Climb badge is awarded, add the number of floors corresponding to the ascent (with a safety margin) and life will be beautiful again.

Once again trux, many thanks for the help!

  • Forget about the real ascent based on the barometer.

The barometer Elevation Gain was definitely the primary condition until recently. Apparently, Garmin changed the algorithm to match the description of the badge, that speaks clearly about the Ascent (and which was in fact irrelevant, initially). The recent change is also the reason why your older Floor Climb badge disappeared when you made the privacy change on it.

  • Hi. I had won the Major Miles badge (record 100 miles of running activities in June). Last week I made a transfer of old activities (2015 - 2016 period) from Nike+ Run Club App to Garmin Connect App then the 100 mile badge disappeared from my Earned list. I see it in the list of Available badges.

You have permission to view my account data.
  • I see it in the list of Available badges.

Isn't the one you see in the Avaliable badges list, the July Major Miles challenge badge instead?

  • No. I see them both

In that case, you may have removed or overwritten some of the activities during the import. Verify whether you are still joined to the June Major Miles Challenge, and how many miles of the 100 are counted. Then check out all your June runs, verify that none of them are imported (only activities recorded by a Garmin device will be counted), make a minor change (i.e. in the title, note, or the apparent effort) and save - that will make the challenge counter to re-parse them again.

  • No activities have been removed or overwritten. All July activities are recorded with a Garmin watch. I am still joined to the challenge. In my app it shows 0.2 of 160.9km. I tried this with the change and rewrote again. He doesn't count them again

  • The application may recognize the activities as recorded with another device, because when recording a new activity, the new kilometers are counted.
