Garmin Connect Badges Not Being Awarded

Former Member
Former Member

Thank you for the ongoing discussion regarding the new badges. We have been following these discussions and are investigating why some badges have not been awarded as expected.

We have created this thread to track reports of badges not displaying in accounts. Please post here if you did not receive a badge as expected, and provide:

  • Badge Type
  • Link to the activity (Privacy set to Everyone)
  • Any other details (such as social media platform you shared an activity to or linked your account with)
  • Do we have permission to view your account data while investigating this issue through our Administrative Tools (Yes/No)?

If you have previously posted about a badge not being awarded, thank you for doing so and there is no need to post again about that specific badge. We are investigating each of those reports and will reach out with any new information individually. We request that posts in this thread be saved for NEW reports of badges not being awarded to aid us in tracking these appropriately.

Thank you for the continued discussion and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

06/19/2018: A new update has been posted here.

  • Probably it is too late now, when the Challenge is already closed. Likely It had to be done still while it was active.

  • screenshot:

However, the screenshot shows the Challenge in the same way as mine (which was completed all right), so go to the Badges page, and verify what the Weekend Walking badge now tells.

Badge: "Virtual Climb - Mist Trail" (Record a floor climbing activity with 1,000 feet of ascent.)

    Activity: June 9th (347m Ascent (~1138 ft))

Permission to view account data: yes

    This also happened with

Badge: "Virtual Climb - Druid Arch" (Record a floor climbing activity with 735 feet of ascent.)

    Activity: May 28th (259m Ascent (~850. ft))

Permission to view account data: yes

  • screenshot

If you did not get the badge, it looks like it is too late, now. Apparently, it had to be done before the closure of the Weekend Walking Challenge.

  • Activity: June 9th (347m Ascent (~1138 ft))

What is actually important at the Floor Climb badges is the Elevation Gain (not the Ascent alone). Have a look at that value, or post the link to your activity.

In the case of the activity of May 28th, elev gain was 226 m (741 ft), 735 was needed.

Also, the badge description says :"Record a floor climbing activity with 1,000 feet of ascent."

What would be the difference between ascent and elevation?

Not sure if I understand, but for the 1000 ft badge, you need the Ascent and Elevation Gain higher than 1000 ft (305m)

As for the 735 ft badge - personally I had no problem getting it (I climbed much more than the required limit), but there were multiple users who did not get it when their Asent and Elevation Gain were just a few meters above the required threashold of 735 ft (224m). My guess is that Garmin has a mistake in the Badge description, and that in the reality, the threshold is 750ft, and not 735 ft as they claim. Repeat the climb with a bigger margin, and you'll get it.

What would be the difference between ascent and elevation?

Elevation Gain is measured by the barometric altimeter, or with the GPS or DEM, at outdoor climbes with GPS enabled, and with the Elevation Correction activated on GC Web. Ascent is measured by the combination of several sensors - the accelerometer, the barometric altimeter, the gyroscopes (depending which of them are available on your device). On some models it may be more accurate than the barometric altimeter alone, on other devices it is the exact opposite. That's the reason why both values are tested.

On May 28th I did 259m ascent, or 226m (741 ft) elevation gain, no badge (here I was aiming for the 735ft badge)
On June 9th I did 347m (1138 ft) ascent, or 275m (902 ft) elevation gain, no badge (here I was aiming for the 1000ft badge, but I didn't get the 735ft badge either)

  • On May 28th I did 259m ascent, or 226m

Share the activities as weblinks and post the links here
