New Badges

I quite like the new badges, although losing sight of my step badges is annoying. I do note that the badges are very heavily weighted towards stepping, running and cycling. Where are all the swimming badges? I would have thought that some of the usual open water and pool swim distances would be worthy of a badge. Come on Garmin...there's a badge for a drone activity but not for a 1 mile swim? Not convinced that flying a drone does much for your fitness.

Did the activity today. Climbed 25 stories with 154m/ 500ft of total climb, but no badge awarded. What did I wrong? Do I have to climb the 334ft in a row without step downwards inbetween?

Go to the concerned Floor Climb activity on Garmin Connect Web (not the phone app!), and check the value Elevation Gain (not shown on the phone app). It must be higher than 334 ft for the Narrows Badge. For some reason, the Elevation Gain often considerably differs from the Ascent value (probably due to problems with the barometric altimeter), but for the Floor Climb badges it is indeed the Elevation Gain and not the Ascent, that is used (unlike what is stated in the badge description).

    • Checked. You‘re right. Positive gain shown is 92m (302ft) only compared to ascent of 155m(508ft). Stupid, but it is. thx anyway
  • Have a look at the thread Narrows Badge, I wrote some more details and hints there too. And also check out the thread What's the secret to tracking stairs accurately? for even more hints

Activated elevation correction. Elevation gain stays at the same value, it didn‘t change, thus badge is still not awarded. Is it possible after the recording to change the value at all? Obviously I did not understand correct.

If you did the Floor Climb activity with GPS enabled (and functional), and did it outdoors, having so the map with the track on the activity screen, then yes. Share the activity and post the link here, if you are not sure.

Floor climbing: yes  GPS:yes.   Outdoors:NO (walked steps indoor up/down.). Pix unfortunately in german language, sorry.

  • Outdoors:NO (walked steps indoor up/down.).

GPS does not work indoors, hence it makes no sense activating it for indoors activities. If there is no GPS track, there cannot be any elevation correction either, of course.

Unfortunately I expected that answer. That means obviously no adaption afterwards. At least I moved my body up and down and burned some calories! Thx again anyway. ;-)
