Move IQ events do not work in the same way as manually started activities, and hence do not create activity reports. When you start an activity manually, the watch starts recording data from various sensors…
100% disagree - there should be an option to change them into one as the watch has already identified them as such.
Move IQ events do not work in the same way as manually started activities, and hence do not create activity reports. When you start an activity manually, the watch starts recording data from various sensors like the GPS, the altimeter, or other (depending on the watch model and external accesories, and depending on the type of the activity, of course). This won't happen with an IQ event. You may want to read about the Garmin Move IQ on Garmin's Support web:
"Move IQ is a feature found on some Garmin watches. Garmin Connect identifies periods of movement that match familiar exercising patterns such as biking, running, swimming, walking, or using an elliptical machine, and tags them as Events. Events will display on the Timeline tab in Garmin Connect as a grey icon, as shown in the picture example below, to help the user track what they have done throughout the day.
NOTE: Move IQ Events need to last for at least 10 continuous minutes to register and do not show in the activity history list, reports, or in a user’s Newsfeed in Garmin Connect."
Thank You Trux for posting this reply. It explained well.
Personally, I gave up on Garmin Connect Mobile- as explained below.
(Biol75, the below might help explain why you can't upload to the phone):
An update some months ago made it so the Garmin Connect Mobile application will not open if the phone isn't either using data or on WiFi. (Verified by e-mail with Garmin tech support) And my phone model was changed from OK to "marginally OK"- whatever that means- by Garmin (Also per Garmin tech support)
It seems some of us were kicked to the curb. That's too bad because the deciding factor for buying this unit versus a competitor's model was the phone connection features. Guess I goofed by buying Garmin. Such is life...
I used to use Mobile by connecting phone & tracker via bluetooth, then I'd upload to the web site Garmin Connect when I got to WiFi or the computer. But with the new application changes, since I don't have a data plan, it leaves Garmin Connect Mobile unavailable to me. So I let the tracker hold the activity data until I can use the computer & cord to upload to regular Garmin Connect.
Thanks Again Trux for explaining.
Enjoy Today!
Paul
If you have troubles connecting the watch to the phone, make sure you have read and tried the tips from this troubleshooting guide - I did not see yet a watch that would not connect, after following those steps.
Recent Garmin Connect Mobile definitely does open even without any Wifi or G4 data link, although in such case the data is not ,and of course, cannot be transmitted to your GC account.
The question is, why not activity history list, reports?
Because they are not activities.
Pretty much all data is missing in a Move IQ event. The only thing you would get from it would be the activity type and time. The heart rate can't be used since it is too inaccurate. It is only the HR data you see on the daily timeline which is a two minute average.
You would get the same data by just adding a manual activity and setting the type and time.
Some watches got a function for autostarting an activity from a Move IQ event. Use that function if your watch got it.
I have a run activity that started and ended as one in watch, yet not shown as an activity in Connect but just a Move IQ Event… Why?
Either you did not save the activity, or it was not synced. Have a look into the folder //GARMIN/Activity on the watch, and if there is a file with the concerned date and time, try importing it manually at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/import-data, and see whether it passes or triggers an error message.
