Sleep tracking is a weak point.

Coming from other devices such as Samsung Gear S2, I'm impressed with virtually every feature save one. Sleep tracking.

so far in one week it's got my times wrong twice and failed to track one day. It looks like Garmin sample HR regularly on the VA3 but it seems that only accelerometer data is used to analyse sleep.

that's seems pretty absurd, in that using both (as Sleep as Android does) would offer far more accurate metrics.

is there a good reason for this anomaly?

If Garmin would provide sleep stages like the competition that I currently use.... I would switch back to Garmin and pick up the VA3 in a heartbeat
I had the the Vivosmart HR and enjoyed it except it was too bulky, so I reluctantly switched to another brand.
Would love to get the VA3 but I am addicted to my sleep stages and do not want to give those statistics up!
  • I don't know why but I can tell that my 3x cheaper Huawei Fit could track my sleep and even random naps with a minute accuracy. My Garmin Forerunner 245 is off even by hours EVERY day. Completely unusable feature. Because of that I am considering switching for Samsung Watch 2 should the reviews be favorable once it comes out.

When I am working well past midnight, on my PC and everyone is asleep, my watch thinks I am in deep sleep (not moving much other than typing on keyboard/moving mouse). Then it sees light sleep/awake for 3-4 min then goes into some random sleep mode. What a joke for a £650 watch!

  • Yep, the same here. I have set my sleep alarm at 10pm and watch probably automatically assumes I get to bed by that time.

My 3x cheaper Huawei Fit didn't have problems detecting this including random naps during the day that Garmin never ever detected... Garmin, really?

Lately I have the impression that the only correctly working sensors are HR monitor and GPS.

Everything else is fake - breathing, SpO2, VO2 Max and set counter during exercises... all seem to be off to me.

Some things are off for sure - like exercise set counter, breathing, sleeping - these I can confirm by other means. And based on these measurements I am loosing also trust in the rest.

Garmin, clients loosing trust in your product is the worst thing that can happen!
