Garmin Edge 1000 rides no longer syncing with Garmin Connect

I think this started happening after the last program update. Bottom line is that none of the rides I do are being uploaded/synced to my Garmin Connect account. The last ride that did was on October 12, 2017. I have a Sim card in the Edge that my rides get saved to. This issue became apparent to me when my rides were no longer being loaded to my RidewithGPS account. According to them:

"It sounds like this is something that is going on with your Garmin Connect account, as the way the information flows is:
  • Your Garmin Edge 1000 records a ride
  • You plug in your Garmin to your computer
  • Your Garmin automatically syncs to Garmin Connect Servers
  • Garmin connect processes your file within it's servers
  • Garmin servers then send the information over to your RideWithGPS account

I would contact Garmin support directly, unfortunately we cannot fix anything on their end as we are separate companies. It might have something to do with the firmware or software version of the Garmin Express software, and they would be more practiced with what might be an error on their end."

So I'm reaching out to this community. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
  • For what it's worth, my 1000 has been uploading fine and it's running the latest 14.30. I have WiFi turned on so it automatically uploads before I even get in the door.

If you're not using WiFi uploading, I'd check to make sure that Garmin Express is running on your computer, in particular the background app that actually does the work (at least that's the way it works on macOS; I don't know about Windows). Without Express there will be no "Your Garmin automatically syncs to Garmin Connect Servers".

I'm using an iMac (macOS Sierra 10.12.6). I'm not using WiFi (it's disabled on my Garmin). I do have Garmin Express (5.7.0.0) and when I connect my Garmin to my iMac I get the message that it has been successfully synced. But, my current rides don't show on Garmin Connect and don't show on RidewithGPS.

    I found this on support.garmin.com:

Support [h=3]Manually Upload Activity Data to Your Garmin Connect Account[/h]
Activities can be imported from mass storage1 devices or directly from your computer to Garmin Connect manually.

To manually upload activities to Garmin Connect:
    • Connect device to computer using USB cable if that is where the file is saved
    • Sign into Garmin Connect
    • Click in top right corner of page
    • Click Import Data
    • Click Browse
    • Locate and select activity file
    • ClickImport Data

Once the activities are uploaded, they can be viewed in Garmin Connect.

Note: Garmin Connect supports .FIT, .GPX, and .TCX files. For a GPX file to successfully upload to Garmin Connect, the file must include time information.

I followed the steps above and my rides from October 13 through yesterday got uploaded and were visible on my Garmin Connect account. Interestingly, only one of them was imported into my RidewithGPS account.

This is frustrating because it was all working previously; I'd come home after a ride, plug my Garmin in to my iMac, wait for both storage items to appear on my Desktop, watch for the Garmin Express message about having been successfully synced, then launch RidewithGPS and click on UPLOAD. My rides would automatically be imported from the Garmin servers. I'd like for that all to start happening again.
  • Another morning ride today, and again, Garmin Express reports successful syncing of the data, but that ride isn't showing up in my Garmin Connect account.

  • You don't have two GC accounts, do you? If so, maybe Express is connected to the one you're not looking at.
