I'm unclear exactly what your problem is, what bit of Garmin doesn't recognise your device? Connect, BaseCamp, something else?

My Dakota 20 is recognized with Garmin Express (only for Updating my Dakota 20 Software) but not with Garmin connect. It means that when I pliug my Dakota 20 to my PC, datas from my Dakota 20 (Such as GPX) cannot synchronize with my dashboard.
I have written several tokens but I have NO ANSWER from Garmin. I bought this because it looked serious but it seems customers are not considered... Maybe I will have more chance with this post... I hope so because it is definitely very unpleasant !

If if is of any consolation to you, my etrex 30 behaves in the same manner, so it seems that handheld units do not support automatic connect synchronization despite garmin's specification saying that they are garmin connect compatible (whatever it means).

The only thing you can do is to manually import gpx files into connect. This is what I do, although I can imagine that it's a cumbersome process when done often.

could be synchronized .

Regarding To the price of garmin products, I Feel stolen by a company which does not care of its customers and even does not answer to them.
A very bad expérience that I will share on web if I have no answer from " God ".
In a few years, I imagine Garmin has scheduled to change Garmin connect so that every customers will have to buy a new GPS device ?! Very nice!...

I to have a Dakota 20 and some time ago asked the same questions and can confirm my Dakota 20 doesn't sync to connect.
I now also have a vivoactive hr and now understand that they are both completely different beasts.
I still love my Dakota 20 but I would never use it as a fitness device nor would I now see any reason to sync to connect.
Its main use for me is for mapping whilst hiking following preloaded gpx routes. Basecamp works perfectly for me for this purpose.
However.....Before getting my Vivoactive HR I would have liked a more intuitive, user friendly way of saving,sharing and archiving my saved routes.
Basecamp isn't the quickest or most user friendly piece of software I've used.

You've been clearly misled or you misunderstood the specification. Nowhere in Garmin's marketing materials can I find info that the dakota 20 is suitable for skydiving or sea diving. The official specification actually discourages underwater use, as it is rated IPX7, which makes if suitable for incidental immersion at best.

It still can be synchronized, only you have to do it by manually importing activities from the device. It is not as comfortable as automatic sync with other fitness devices, and the information in the spec chart that the dakota 20 is garmin connect compatible might be misleading - I admit - to someone used to other fitness devices. But this is how it works for now.
