Unable to upload any fit/tcx files to Garmin Connect

As of yesterday, I am unable to import any activities into Garmin Connect.

I've tried multiple browsers, I've tried altered fit files imported as fit and tcx, I've tried un-altered fit files (exported directly from Garmin Connect, then imported directly back in), etc. but still getting the error "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again."

Is anyone else seeing this? I can't imagine that this is only an issue for me...

Thanks in advance.
  • The root cause of this issue has been determined and a fix was recently deployed to Garmin Connect to resolve this issue with any files uploaded moving forward.

    Any previously uploaded files that were displaying incorrectly, can be exported in the original format (Export Original) and then re-uploaded to the account. Please reach out if you have any issues.
  • Exports in formet GPX or TCX

    Many thanks for the reply but I do not understand how the fix has "helped".

    I have been using Garmin Connect for a long time on an iMAC. I export my activities as either as GPX or TCX files and use them on orienteering software. Using the "wheel" this worked perfectly up to this week. I have changed nothing. I tired to export an activity as a .tcx file and it was exported as a tcx.wml file. My system cannot use this format. The same happened when exporting as .gpx and I received a .gpx.wml file.
    I then tried to re-exported an older file that I had exported as a .tcx successfully two weeks ago. This also appeared in the format .tcx.wml
    Clearly the fix has not "fixed" this issue.
    Many thanks.

    @nickjcampbell,

    The fix that was applied was for the issue were Garmin Connect was not properly processing TCX or GPX files that were uploaded to Garmin Connect. The issue that you are describing is a different issue and will require some more investigation.

    Can you provide a link to an activity, or the .tcx.wml file that you are getting when attempting to export the file? Also does this issue also occur if you Export Original?

    @nickjcampbell

    Also, as a temporary work around, are you able to rename the file and remove the .wml and upload the file to the program you are using?

    Is this considered a closed issue? I'm a newb, trying to upload a tcx file and just keep getting the super helpful "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." error message. My .tcx file uploads correctly to strava, and a preliminary look at the file with my limited xml capabilities shows nothing obvious (again...to a newb).

    If anyone can point me to someone who can help I'd be most appreciative.

    I am trying to upload a .fit file from a third party GPS device to Garmin Connect without success. It says, as already previous user points out, the unhelpful "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." There is no problems uploading the file to Endomondo, or uploading the exported .tcx file of the same activity from Endomondo to Garmin Connect.
    What could be the reason and is there a fix planned for this? On Garmin Connect is says that uploading .fit files is possible. Is it or is it not?
  • As you can see the last post was over a year ago, so clearly not a big thing. The only .fit files that Garmin will guarantee to take are those created from Garmin devices. There can be no certainty that the .fit file from the 3rd party device is compatible.
