"Calories Remaining" report still buggy

(1) The data is often 'out of date' ... it takes several refreshes to force it to update ... it's still opaque to me just what hoops to jump through to make this happen.

(2) The data is inconsistent. "Completed" days take net calories consumed and compare them against a 'break even' value. So if my (Consumed - BMR - active) calories is 500 less than that 'break even' number, then the day's bar shows me to have 500 remaining. I.e. (Break Even) - (Net Calories).

But the bar for "Today" (which is pro-rated - i.e. at noon it will use 50% of BMR) appears not against /that/ number, but against my 'goal'. So, for instance, suppose my goal is 300 less than 'break even' - I'm trying to lose a little weight. The "today" value (when it has properly updated) at noon will be: [(Break Even- 300) - (Net Calories)]/2. This is 150 less than [(Break Even)-(Net Calories)]/2.

In other words, "today's" value and the rest of the graph are measuring two different things.

(3) As with the rest of GC, there is woefully inadequate documentation or explanation of the terms, display elements, and underlying calculations.

Took me weeks to figure out what was going on with the "Calories Remaining" report, particularly given the many recent server/transfer/update glitches and the difficulty in getting the report to refresh.

As a minimal solution, it would be a simple matter, of only a few hours work, to update the 'sidebar' documentation of each dashboard element to provide more information.

I think there's a lag of about 30-90 seconds between when you upload activities and the data is available in any report, although the activities are available to view straight away. Is this the kind of behavior you're seeing?

Possibly - though I've had delays longer than that, and I've had to scroll back through each day on the "full page" version of the report and hit "sync" there before I get the proper values. It would of course help, enormously, if each widget would indicate when it was updated (or when the data it was drawing from was updated), so that it could be clear at a glance whether or not it was out of date.

But I'll keep this possibility in mind as I try to further diagnose it.

    I forgot to list:

    (4) Clicking the display to show the last 4 weeks rather than the last 7 days returns a "You have no data for this time period" error, even though I have data for that period, and plenty of weeks before it as well.

So that part/option of the display/widget is rendered useless.

I used to get that for 0-distance activities, but I thought that was fixed. I'd send Garmin support a message. Don't forget to make sure they know they still sell fitness trackers and speak slowly, using mainly monosyllabic words eg. "Me cust-o-mer. You fix prooob-lem". Anything much more complicated tends to go over their heads.

Items on the GC web version should be updated within 2 minutes max of the data being synced unless there's a problem. if you're using something else to view your calories remaining (gc mobile, your device) you'll get better support in the relevant forum areas.
