Using Two Devices With Garmin Connect

I had question about using two separate devices to track activities. I currently use Vivosmart HR and I'm planning on purchasing Fenix 3 HR for workouts and the such. I wear my Vivosmart during my workweek and I plan on wearing the fenix 3 on my days off to track all my workouts, HR and sleep patterns when the Vivo isn't on. I'm curious if the devices will cause problems when the other isn't in use? Has anyone had to use two separate devices at different times using Garmin Connect.

A quick side not: The reason I use two devices instead of just wearing the Fenix 3 full time is I work in Law Enforcement and you really don't want to be wearing a $1000 training watch while on the job.

Thanks
  • Just how do you change or set the primary activity tracker?

What you are hoping to do would be a PITA.

You can only have one primary tracker at a time which you can change at will. That's the good news.
The bad news is you need to make the switch at very beginning of the morning and also make sure you're all synced up before switching. If your fenix sits in a drawer until, say, noon, you could find yourself having lost your sleep stats for the night before and your steps up-to-that point.

Since the VSHR records sleep and 24/7 HR, you should wear it 24/7 and have it as your primary tracker. The VSHR will record sleep, steps, and 24/7 hR. Use the Fenix just for activities but use it for HR during the activity.

I cannot see any setting for this in Garmin Connect. Garmin Express keeps directing me to the Devices page, but there is nothing there to check or set (I have a vivosmart and an Edge 810). What am I missing? I've been unable to sync properly since February 22. Before that it worked fine.

I think this means you can only have one primary 'tracker' style device - something that measures your sleep, steps, resting calories etc. As far as I know the edge 810 is a cycle computer, and doesn't do that.

It's in the mobile app. Press the 3 dots for more> Garmin Devices>choose your device> device settings> click "set as Activity Tracker". This is how it looks in IOS; I assume droid is similar.
  • I don't believe the 810 does "activity tracking" (the 24/7 stuff ), so your vivo should always be it. It could also be that with the vivo, you don't even have to option to turn it on or off.
