Device being set to "Unknown"

I manually upload the files from my various devices and noticed today that the last few have had the device set to unknown. It worked with the FIT file on Thursday: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1022435842 but not since (ex: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1029598752).

Both show the correct device when uploaded to Strava. Hopefully this can be addressed and repaired for the impacted uploads without having to remove and resubmit them.
  • I just updated to 6.92b but without impact on UNKNOWN syndrome - I made 2 test activities and device is unknown :mad::mad:

My Fenix 3 has been "unknown" since Sunday. Was recognized as Fenix 3 until then. Version 6.90 both before and after Sunday.

And now it is once again recognized as a Fenix 3...

My fenix is at least no longer UNKNOWN, but it still keeps defaulting to applying elevation correction. Is there a setting somewhere in the modern interface I am supposed to go to to turn that off? It does not apply elevation correction to my Edge 800.

I don't think there is a setting for elevation correction... When my Fenix3 was unknown, elevation correction was enabled but as soon as it got recognized, by default the elevation correction is disabled. You may want to try a soft reset on the watch (hold the light button for 15-20 sec and then restart) or contact Garmin.

Still forcing me to disable elevation corrections each time, and the reset didn't do anything but to get rid of my customized settings. I did that when I first tried Garmin Support about the "UNKNOWN" issue, even when it was clearly a problem on their end and others already reported resetting not helping.

My watch used to default to disabled corrections before the whole "UNKNOWN" shenanigans. Really not encouraged about Garmin products from this experience.

The connect website is still forcing me to toggle off elevation correction for my fenix every time. I like when it used to stick to disabled. It is disappointing that this issue is still lingering.
  • @MOJO-MONKEY, you're not the only one still experiencing this https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?357366-Elev-Corrections-Enabled-When-They-Should-be-Disabled. I'm still having Elev Corrections being applied to my activities and my support ticket has been squarely ingnored by Gamin CS. There are many others on the Fenix 3 forum reporting this, so it does seem to be a widespread issue. There's no fault with the hardware or the device software, but as Garmin Connect is such an integral part of the Garmin device ownership experience it's this service that seems to generate all the 'bugs' in of late.

The last few uploads have been properly defaulting to disabling elevation corrections. Hopefully that sticks around...
