Device being set to "Unknown"

I manually upload the files from my various devices and noticed today that the last few have had the device set to unknown. It worked with the FIT file on Thursday: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1022435842 but not since (ex: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1029598752).

Both show the correct device when uploaded to Strava. Hopefully this can be addressed and repaired for the impacted uploads without having to remove and resubmit them.
  • I've run into the exact same issue starting yesterday. Display was fine for the same Garmin device before yesterday. I also noticed the latest sync time doesn't get updated. Could be the cause or related issue.

    A couple of days ago. Cadence, HR graph on GC was gone for all my indoor activities. GC quality is dropping these days.

    Ok so what is the issue with Connect no registering the correct device? I upgraded my fenix 3 to 6.5 and for a while it showed "rubber ducky" as the device type. Then the issue seem to get resolved for a few activities. Then it started showing Unknown device for a few more activities. It then seemed to get corrected again for a few more activities. It now shows Unknown device again? Is it that difficult for connect to show the correct device? Strava has always had the correct device info. In a lot of watch cases this would not matter but in the case of the fenix its kind of a big deal considering that the elevation corrections get turned on if your device dose not have the altimeter. If Garmin connect don't recognize the device then It has no idea that the device has the altimeter. This needs to get resolved permanently. This same issue was reported in the fenix forum but I think it is more appropriate here.
  • Got a response from Garmin that they are aware of this unknown device issue and they are working to resolve it. But they are not sure about the issue with the latest sync time not updated.
  • It is still not resolved. I am a long time Garmin fan, but I am really disappointed with Garmin Customer Support this time. They mixed emails, didn't read the whole thread before they ask unnecessary questions, and in the end they just confirmed again this is a known issue on the Fenix side. It is an odd blame though because the device icon was displayed fine on GC last year until recently, unless one of the Fenix3 updates broke something.
  • For the last couple of days, unknown device has been resolved. No updates needed for fenix3.

    Not for me (Fenix) - I just uploaded a run and it is still unknown.

    I also noticed that on at least one, swapping the elevation correction to "disabled" did not fix the elevation profile, just the summary data. I'd have to find the specific activity where they varied enough to notice the difference between what Garmin plots vs others (e.g. Strava or Sport Tracks).

    The "unknown" device issue with the Fenix 3 has been going on (with a couple of days here and there with it "fixed", only to return) since 1/22, which was also the date the phantom activities problem appeared. They seem to have fixed the phantom activity logging, as that stopped for me on 2/20. I can only echo my disappointment with Garmin as this has been going on for over a month. I, too, got confusing and contradicting responses from support, even to the point of asking me to return my fenix 3 for replacement, only to have them email me a couple of days later, changing their mind, saying it was a problem with Garmin Connect, not the watch, followed by the encouraging,"we expect it to be resolved sometime soon, but have no date for resolution."

    Anyone know if they are still working on this? Mine has been unknown for 3 weeks now, while 2 of my friends are showing up correctly.

    they must be working on this - a few days ago I got answer from support.
    I am still "unknown" - since few weeks.
    a friend of mine has became also "unknown" 4 days ago - he had never experienced the issue before.
    It seems, Garmin is rebuilding GC database.
  • Super annoying

    My Fenix 3 was showing up correctly in the activities when I was running 6.80.
    But after updating to beta 6.82 last Sunday it's screwed up again, it says: "Unknown, Software 6.82...".
    It means I have to go in manually in every activity and turn off Elevation Corrections.
