Device being set to "Unknown"

I manually upload the files from my various devices and noticed today that the last few have had the device set to unknown. It worked with the FIT file on Thursday: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1022435842 but not since (ex: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/1029598752).

Both show the correct device when uploaded to Strava. Hopefully this can be addressed and repaired for the impacted uploads without having to remove and resubmit them.
  • Today, my Fenix3 running FW6.84b turned into an "unknown" device in Garmin Connect for the first time in a while... In any case, it is frustrating that Garmin can't get its act together on the matter :-(

Really surprised and disappointed that this is still happening!

So there is no status on Garmin being unable to identify its own device when 3rd parties like Strava have no issue? How can this bug stick around for months? It is silly to have to disable elevation correction every time - the barometric altimeter is one of the key features that drove me to a fenix device!
  • I'm not usually one to complain about bugs that don't affect device functionality or my training, but this is beyond absurd. Garmin should be embarrassed.
  • Hi,
Maybe it's just a coinidence but since I have deleted the activities on the F3 the activies on GC are now correct.
  • Just a coincidence. GC has recognized my F3 for the last 2 days.
  • There are consequences to the watch not being recognized (unknown) as Garmin Connect automatically turns on the elevation correction and that is reflected and transferred to the FIT files; GPS elevation is known to be notoriously wrong but the files transferred to Strava or other places are corrected anyway :-(

Yesterday,my morning commute ride was unknown, but in the afternoon it showed fenix 3. Continued to show fenix 3 today. I appreciate it being resolved.

Hopefully, Garmin will run a script to update historical entries.
  • again UNKNOWN

    Hi,

am I the only one with the UNKNOWN-syndrome for Fenix 3 after sunday GC crash?
I have FW 6.91b and for some first days of April my watch was recognizing correctly, now it's again UNKNOWN.
    Very, very annoying...
  • I am running 6.92b but my watch is still recognized as a Fenix 3 (not unknown). Like you, though, until the end of March, I was getting the "unknown" device...
