Make Notes / Journal searchable

I love everything about Garmin Connect. I'd like to suggest a very useful feature is to allow searching on the Notes that can be added to the calendar. I got injured sometime last year and had a horrible time trying to find the info. A simple search should be easy to implement. No other health / workout software or website offers this that I know of with the possible exception of TrainingPeaks.

Also, allow Notes entry, search, and/or filtering via the mobile app, please.

Nice job, everyone. Have a great weekend!
  • I second this suggestion....Whoop has a similar one!

  • The notes in activities are searchable since many years from within the Activities page:

  • As mentioned, this has been a feature for quite a while. Just know that the search works well for a single unique word contained in the note.

  • Just know that the search works well for a single unique word contained in the note.

Actually it works for expressions with multiple words or phrases too, just you have to enclose them into single quotes (the more common double quoting does not work!). For example the expression I broke my leg would reveal all notes including any of the words in that expression. The double quoted expression "I broke my leg" would match the note only if it included the double quotes too. Only the single quoted expression 'I broke my leg' would return the note with the exact phrase I broke my leg.

  • Yes, I already had tried single quotes. Tested with I broke my leg as one of my notes. It returned that activity, but also returned every activity with the word "leg" in the activity name as well. So every leg workout.

Searching for broke returned the only activity with that word in it.

  • Strange, originally I tried with another expression and it worked (and still works) as expected when using the single quoted search expression. However, you are right that the expression 'I broke my leg' will return any note including any of the words. I am going to make some more testing.

  • OK, I found why it worked before for me, and not with the expression 'I broke my leg'. For some strange reason, it works as expected (searching the exact expression) only if the expression contains some accented characters.

For the testing I added an accent and used the search expression 'I broke mý leg'. It then finds the exact note 'I broke mý leg', but it does not find the note with 'I broke leg' and also not 'I broke mý left leg'.

Unfortunately, unless you write notes using a lot of accents and diacritics (like me), it will probably not help you much.

And in fact the quotes do not seem to play a role - it is the diacritics that changes the behavior

  • The search function behavior is indefinite, no clear rules how it supposed to work, probably bugged.
