Garmin "Modern" view - can't stand it!

Man, What do you guys think about eh new Garmin "Modern" site?

I Hate it! What did they think they had to change it?????

Please Garmin, keep the Classic view for some of us.

  • I contacted support about my Modern export issue. They got back to me right away. This is what they said: (The usual suspects)

Unfortunately, if this only occurs with google chrome, than it is an issue with the browser, and not with Connect. Here are a few things you can try:

    • Ensure Google Chrome is on the latest version
    • Disable internet security firewalls
    • Clearing the browsing history
    • Use a different browser
    • Disable any VPN's you are running

So I did everything that was suggested except the windows firewall which I left for last. When I finally disabled the windows firewall, it worked. Then I turned the windows firewall on again and it still worked.

    I'm a happy camper.
  • SUSSAMB,

I posted above that I tried to import an activity into modern and it worked.

Yesterday, I had to export an activity to re-import it in order to fix my activity report. It's actually the export in Modern that doesn't work for me. I had a tip that it should work if I have Express open while doing the export. I did that but it didn't make a difference.

It's not a problem for me today but it will be when Classic disappears.

Try logging out and back in again. For some reason, after you've been logged in for a while, that specific bit of the site seems to think you're logged out and not authorized to access the tcx file (unless the activity is public).
  • MCBADGER,

    Makes Sense.

    Thx,

Never Had Classic Version Until Now

I've been using a Garmin Vivofit (and now a Vivofit2) for over a year, and I had never seen the "Classic" version, until this latest upgrade. The "Modern" version is all I know, so it is VERY annoying when I click on the Garmin Connect link in Garmin Express, then have to click on the Modern tab in order to see my stats for the past 24 hours. While I understand that some prefer one over the other, Garmin needed to allow the option to pick one or the other as your default window when you actually connect up with Garmin Connect. Since I'm not as active as some - at least not right now - I have only a few things on my dashboard, and it's nice being able to see them all at once when I open up the Modern window. If Garmin wants to give you the option of which view to use, that's great, but also give us the option to choose which one we want as the default window when the program enters and I'll be happy.

I haven't read all the posts on this next issue, but has anyone else noticed that even if you have a time frame set for sleep and/or use the sleep setting on your fitness band, that the time showing for sleep start after syncing and going to Garmin Connect is not the either of those two times? I've only noticed this over the past week, which means it's something from the latest update, but I did notice that the time seems to more correctly reflect the time you actually fall asleep, not what you set in the program or by the fitness band. I only noticed because I couldn't sleep one night, and while in the past the band would show this as light/restless sleep, it didn't show me falling asleep until the time I actually did go to bed, which was about 4 hours after I had set my fitness band to the "Sleep" setting. Would be very interested to know if others have noticed the same thing, and wondering how it knows when I actually fall asleep vs. simply lying in bed reading or something like that.
  • I'm not sure how that happens for you. When I go to Connect from Express, it always takes me to the Modern dashboard. BTW, Classic is apparently due to be retired within a week.

As for sleep, sleep auto-detect was implemented last April. It works reasonably well for most people. It sometimes gets fooled if you're just lying down on the bed but there are 2 graphs - movement and levels. Between the 2, you can usually get a pretty good picture of how and when you slept.

I've noticed since a few days ago when I go to connect from express it now takes me to the classic view. Not a major issue - hopefully it sorts itself out when classic is removed.
  • I just tried now and it went to Classic.
BTW, I also noticed a new font on modern today.
On the Connect status page, Modern is listed having some issues although the icon is green..
