Reports in Garmin Connect incorrect

Former Member

Hi Folks,
In november there are 11 activities in my schedule. Three running, 4 hiking and 4 cycling events. In reports there are only 4 cycling and 1 running event displayed. So there are missing a few items. Does anyone know about this issue? Please let me know.
Thanks

  • For example, when I update the distance of a running activity (that was done on a treadmill) it is not captured in the 'total distance' report. It is captured right in the 'total time' report because this was originated by the device itself and was not edited later.

The same happens for me with Cross Trainer activities. The total time is displayed ok but the distance is not if I'm a bit slow to edit after upload. In the same manner as activities that show as the incorrect type, if I export the original FIT file and re-import then edit, that corrects the reports.

Whilst this work around does work, it is getting to be a pain now having to do this on a semi regular basis. If Garmin are working on a fix as others have reported, they are being rather slow about it!
  • What I would like to know is how to get to that display in modern without having to delete an activity.

If you click on the "3 Lines" button on the left hand side of the modern display, and select Activities, that will open the same display you see when deleting an activity.
  • Thx.

I knew it was there somewhere.
  • From my experience the missing reports are the ones that were edited in GarinConnect after the upload.
For example, when I update the distance of a running activity (that was done on a treadmill) it is not captured in the 'total distance' report. It is captured right in the 'total time' report because this was originated by the device itself and was not edited later.

Is there anyone else who see this behavior?

That is exactly what is happening for me. After treadmill session, I update distance and can see it in my activities view correctly. But reports sometimes don't count it against total distance. If I export activity to TCX file and open it in notepad distance is still 0.0.

    What a mess.
  • It's a bug that Garmin is working on.

Look around in this forum. There are a number of threads about this with workarounds until this gets fixed.

Curious on your source of this mate, I've just received a reply stating that this is intended behaviour :(

  • If your Fprerunner is stuck with running, then changing the activity type on the watch may not work. I would think it can be overcome in Connect by
    • changing it immediately or
    • changing it, exporting it, and then reimporting the changed activity.

The vivofit also defaults to running but I can change it after in Connect. My source is my series of emails I have had with Garmin so far on this:

Thank you for being a Garmin customer. Upon looking into this issue, I see that a run is showing on 11/15 for 1:21:33, and this shows up in the total activity time report for a running activity as well. Looking at the Calendar, The X-Cycle and Elliptical are showing correct for the color bar, brown for Fitness Equipment and blue for cycling. Regarding the reports not showing the correct information and combining activities into running, we will need to create a case for this issue. What browser are you using? Once we have this information, we will be able to set up the case.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I’d be happy to continue helping you today.
Based on your description it sounds like you have found a viable solution to the issue you are having. Just to confirm a few things:

    • What device did you use to record these cycling activities?

Unfortunately, most of our running and vivo devices only save activities as running or walking so there is no way to change the type before it hits the app or web page. However, you are correct in thinking that you should be able to change the activities and it should reflect otherwise.

I have to agree with some of the earlier posters to this forum. The reports section was working fine up until early November. Since then its not worked at all. I have always updated my activities quite quickly after uploading them to Garmin Connect. The change flowed through the system without any problem. Now its a load of rubbish. You can change the activity type but the reports and statistics section remains the same. It registers what's been uploaded as a 'run' and only a 'run'. Which kind of defeats the point of allowing customers to change an activity type.

I've emailed Garmin 4 times now. The first time they wanted screenshots of the problem. I obliged and then got an email back saying i needed to delete my browser history, at which point I realised that they had no idea what's going on. I thought i was alone...

Having stumbled across this post today, i can now see that I'm not alone and this is a real problem.

I've just emailed Garmin technical support again with a link to this forum post and I wait to see what their reply will be....

    Cheers all.

LOL, I have met some people of Garmin (face to face) and your right, they have no idea what's going on out there.... So I would be surprised if this problem will be solved in the (very) near future. Are there alternatives (except Strava..)?
  • I'm the one who got them to open a case about this last November 15th. I can tell you that the people I communicated with understood the issue very well. Hopefully, so do the people who are supposed to be working on it.

For what it's worth, I have also come across the same issue starting in late November: cycling now registers as running in all reports. Very frustrating when trying to keep an accurate count of miles run versus miles run and cycled.
