Actually, that's probably not a surprise as it does it with the vivosmart and other Garmin devices. If you do a cycling activity, it might work as the default vivosmart activity is running. Either way, it seems like too much trouble.
I purchased a £30 Bluetooth hrm from Argos that works perfectly well. I've removed my VS prior to my run and just Used my belt and phone for GPS and hrm recorded activity.
