It looks like the discussion surrounding this was closed for some reason, but honestly the response is not satisfactory. The closing remarks were:
"After reviewing this with our internal team, they have determined that this is something you will need to contact Apple support for."
There are a few issues with this.
- Numerous apps have zero issues with this including Wahoo and Strava. Heck you can have Garmin Connect sync to Strava or RunGap and they can write the workout to Apple Health and never have any issues overwriting the Apple-specific effort rating.
- Garmin owns the integration here. HealthKit specifically requires Garmin to make these writes through their app. It's like the only integration that you initiate through Garmin Connect directly. It's ridiculous to suggest the end user should contact Apple to get help fixing Garmin's integration. If there is an issue you are the code owner. You should reach out to them. We have no power to fix this and no insight into where things are going wrong. Maybe Apple Health integration isn't a priority and you aren't interested in fixing it. Say that if that's the case. At least it would be honest. Sending endusers on a dead end quest to fix your integration is disingenuous.
Anyways it certainly makes me tempted to exercise the return window on my Edge 850. It'd be one thing if it just wasn't a feature, but not taking responsibility for a broken feature you claim to offer is ridiculous and really undermines trust in the platform. I linked to the old thread for context:
