Airpods connect/disconnect to iPhone

I recently got a Fenix 8 47 mm AMOLED and really love it HOWEVER, for some reason my Airpods have stopped working with my iphone. I do not want to connect the airpods to the watch and haven'r done so eather, but not when I want to use the airpods with my phone, they keep connecting and disconnecting instantly. I know its the garmin watch / app spooking because they work perfect when the watch is disconnected.

I have also tried resetting the airpod connection with my iphone but with the same results.

Anyone else experienced this and know how to solve it?

  • Yeah for me it happens with both my Fenix 8 and my Edge 840 bike computer.

  • my issue resolved. I dont know why. Airpod pro 2, iphone 14 latest software, Tactix 8 Solar. airpods no longer constanyly disconnect and reconnect when the garmin connect app is open. app syncs wed while music playing or on phone call.

I have no idea what fixed it.

  • this has solved this for me, i switch it on whem needed

  • But if you follow the full thread, you'll see the complete lack of transparency regarding this issue - whether Garmin has been able to reproduce it internally or whether any progress has been made. Even a simple note saying they can't share that information would have been something, but there has been virtually no communication for weeks.

Completely agree, Garmin should work on their communication.

    Beside of it.
In my family we all having Garmin devices (Fenix 6 and two Descent MK3i), all using iPhones from 13 to 15, I use JBL headphones for sport and Sennheiser Momentum 4 for other situations, my ladies uses Airpods Pro (2 and 3 models) and we don't face any issues discussed here.
    All software up to date.

    Regards.

  • happy to help with the issue I'm having -- contact me

  • I have been troubleshooting this problem on my iphone for about 2 months now and just recently narrowed it down to the Garmin Connect app. When I remove the app from my phone the problem goes away. I have been using two different iphones, an iphone 13 mini and a 17 both currently running ios 26.6. This problem began about 3 to 4 ios updates ago.

Problem: Airpods Gen 4 and Airpods Pro intermittently disconnect while listening to podcasts on the Apple Podcast app. This happens on other Apple platform apps such as Apple Music, but not on any 3rd party apps that I have tested. Older airpods and aftermarket bluetooth accessories are not affected. Sometimes the airpods reconnect to the phone immediately and other times I have to force reconnect them.

Also, this only happens when connected to wi-fi. The network doesn't matter, all wi-fi networks reproduce the same behavior. I have not been able to replicate the problem on cellular.

Please feel free to reach out to me for any additional info.

  • I have had this issue multiple months. Even had my AirPods replaced by Apple.

Garmin Instinct 3 - 45mm Amoled, had at least one, likely two software updates on the watch while these problems have been ongoing. Currently on firmware/software 14.17.

iPhone 14 Pro and currently using iOS version 26.6 and been through multiple versions of iOS wit this issues.

Garmin Connect app version 5.27.1 and been through a load of versions of this as well.

I estimate that I have had these issues for about 6 months now.

not very happy with this ongoing issue, O am about to sell the watch and go full Apple because this situation sucks.

  • 9662728 -- do your AirPods work without dropout if you a) quit the Garmin connect app on your iPhone and b) under settings>bluetooth, prevent Garmin connect from automatically starting when your Garmin instinct connects to your phone via bluetooth.  I went through similar gyrations trying to get my AirPod pro 3 to stop dropping out and the only solution that's reliably worked for me is to prevent Garmin connect from running while using my AirPods.
