Airpods connect/disconnect to iPhone

I recently got a Fenix 8 47 mm AMOLED and really love it HOWEVER, for some reason my Airpods have stopped working with my iphone. I do not want to connect the airpods to the watch and haven'r done so eather, but not when I want to use the airpods with my phone, they keep connecting and disconnecting instantly. I know its the garmin watch / app spooking because they work perfect when the watch is disconnected.

I have also tried resetting the airpod connection with my iphone but with the same results.

Anyone else experienced this and know how to solve it?

I updated iOS to 26.4.1 which came out today, the problem for me appears to be resolved, so likely an iOS issue. The release was stated as 'bug fixes' but it didn't mention what.

I have the same issue with my Forerunner 265 in combination with iPhone 16 and AirPods Pro 3. I hope garmin solves this with an update soon. In the meantime I disconnect the watch from my phone.

I am having the same issue, just got a new Fenix 8 51mm Solar this afternoon. It is paired with the phone, whenever I try to use my AirPods Pro 3 with my phone now they appear to do a disconnect/reconnect loop. It does not do it when I connect my airpods to my mac or other devices, just the phone that has the Garmin paired. If I unpair the Garmin, Airpods obviously work fine.

I have removed and re-paired both watch and airpods, still same issue persists. Running the latest iOS 26.4, iPhone 17 Pro Max. The watch is running software version 21.39 which I have updated to. This is not a great experience first up with the Garmin ecosystem.

Can you all please uninstall and reinstall the Connect app, using your Airpods again, and testing to see if they disconnect?

I find before you start your activity hard stop all other apps that you are not using. Social media, email etc. They send to their feeds and it disrupts the bluetooth. I use Apple iOS. The only things I have running while working out are Garmin connect, my HRM and a music app., if in my home gym I use Alexa to play from Spotify so it is not disruptive.

I’m having the same issue with my vivoactive5 I just got. It’ll keep connecting and disconnecting to my phone over and over. I tried repairing my AirPods but that didn’t work. Sometimes the connection will hold, but not for very long. The only way it stays connected is if I disconnect the watch from my phone I also just updated my phone to the iOS 26.4.1 like someone suggested, but that didn’t work either.

Are you saying the vivoactive 5 keeps disconnecting and connecting to the phone? Or are you referring to your AirPods disconnecting and connecting to your phone?

my AirPods keep connecting and disconnecting to my phone. It must have something to do with the watch being paired to my phone because I never had this issue prior to the Garmin and the AirPods work fine when I disconnect the watch from my phone

Same issues as others. IOS version 26.4.1, Apple AirPods Pro, and brand new Garmin Forerunner 970 software version 15.33
