New Instinct 2S Solar surf will not connect to Garmin connect on two different Iphones

So frustrated today. My watch was warrantied with a  battery issue, got a new one, set it up and it just will not connect via Garmin Connect. The app finds the watch, it comes up and then I say "Connect it". It says "Completing the setu of your Instinct 2S Solar Surf device", shows a grey status bar that does nothing and then says "Pairing failed". I try over and over again. I've also tried:

-Resetting the watch back to default settings

-Connecting it to my laptop and updating it

-Deleting and reinstalling the app

-Trying with another phone (also an iphone)

-Turning my hone and the watch off and on again

-Turning Bluetooth on and off

And pretty much an obvious thing but no luck. Starting to think this new unit is faulty and it is such a mission to return it, took them 2 weeks to sort it out last time and only because I nagged, otherwise would have taken longer

  • Make sure to always remove / forget the watch from the list of BT devices on the phone, before you try pairing it through Garmin Connect.

  • Yes, tried that too, thanks

  • Also, if you are using two different phones, make sure the Bluetooth is enabled only on one of them at a time.

  • I have the same problem. I sent the watch to the technical support already two times and each time they replaced it with a new one that unfortunately has the same problem. Not to mention that the last one that they sent is completely unusable with a ultra slow display, non-working buttons and it doesn't even connect with the usb cable to the Garmin Express app on the laptop.

I bought the watch in August and after 3 months I still don't have a working device.

I read the reviews of the Garmin Connect app and apparently a lot of users had connectivity issues after the update to the version 5 of the app. So besides a hardware problem, it could be a software problem.

  • I sent the watch back and was given a watch that too has this problem and will not connect to any device. Garmin is really dissapointing

  • I would test it with a different phone, to exclude the possibility that there is a problem on the phone.

  • tested with two different iphones, same result Disappointed

  • tested with two different iphones, same result

That is indeed weird. I already installed 10 different watches on iPhones as well as on Androids, and did not encounter any complications. In your place, I would call the Support and let me lead through the pairing process step by step, in case you misunderstood or missed some hint in the installation instructions.

  • After sending back the watch to Garmin 3 times, the fourth watch finally worked. It's not a problem of paring procedure or iPhone, it's a problem of defective watch. The first three watches that I tried had a similar serial number, while the fourth one had a much greater serial number, about 1000 numbers away. It was definitely a defective batch of watches. Lost 4 months since the purchase and I can finally start using my watch now.

What serial number does your watch have?

  • Hey Federico. Current one is 744001956. As you mentioned, the other one had a very similar serial number. I would think they would figure this out, but clearly not.
