Intervals Is Missing From App and Become Laps

The app used to have intervals that show the breakdown warm up, run and cool down. Yesterday firmware update had caused intervals to combine warm up, run and cool down into laps. I am unable to get average run pace for my run as it includes warm up and cool down. Is there anyway i can do to get back previous intervals with the break down?

  • You did not tell which model you own, but personally, on my Instinct 2, I never got the breakdown to warm up / run / cool down, unless I used a structured workout with those phases. However, even if I do the plain-vanilla Run or Trail Run with just simple 1km or manual laps, I can edit the activity, and assign the type Warm Up / Run /  Recovery / Rest / Cool Down / Other to any of the laps as I want.

It is possible both on GC Web, as well as with the app. When using the app, open the Activity, tap Edit, scroll down, tap "Show More Data", tap Interval, select the interval you want to change, tap Change (top right), and assign the type of Interval.

  • Thanks for sharing . I just tried it and sadly it doesn’t work with sports under the Other category regardless if laps were tracked by custom/structured workout or with 1km laps. I’ll upload screenshots in the older thread:

  • I saw some users reporting that the Laps tab was removed from the Other category, though that's a different topic than we discuss here in this thread. The OP mentions intervals (he has laps instead of them) in the Run activity, and that's apparently not your case.

  • Laps tab was removed from the Other category,

Only when using a custom workout. With manual or auto-lap it still appears.

But even with them visible there isn’t the option you mentioned here:

When using the app, open the Activity, tap Edit, scroll down, tap "Show More Data", tap Interval, select the interval you want to change, tap Change (top right), and assign the type of Interval.
  • The OP was about running, and my answer referred to the Run activity type, where it works in the way I described. Similarly it does work for some other activity types (i.e. Cycling). If you need it at other types, try requesting it from Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin

  • I hear ya, trux. To keep it in line with OP I think it’s a bit hard to understand and warrants more details by original poster.

caused intervals to combine warm up, run and cool down into laps

Is it talking about the section or about having the warm up, run and cool down into one single lap step?

I am unable to get average run pace for my run as it includes warm up and cool down.

Reading this makes me think that it got combined into one single step. If that’s the case, editing intervals won’t be helpful since you can change the interval label but not split the duration to…

get back previous intervals with the break down

Might be best to review how the activity is being started in the watch and if the auto-lap or a workout was the reason the breakdown was available before.

I converted an activity from Other to Running, and everything seems fine in Connect.

As far as I understood, the user complained that the watch did not detect automatically the warm up, run, and cool-down phases. As I answered it happens only if you follow a structured workout, where the interval types are already pre-defined. If using the plain Run activity w/o a Workout, the laps need to be tagged manually, and then assigned the right type in Garmin Connect in the way I described. And it was always working in this way.

Another option is having a generic workout with three phases (warm up / run / cool down) with a free distance/time (waiting for a key press), and always use that workout for the runs.

  • Then I guess it was just me that didn’t get it. Sweat smile Still, thanks for mentioning the editing of intervals. Never gave it a try since I just edit my Other sports and just found out it isn’t visible. I‘ll also add that suggestion in Share Ideas.
