Zwift activity why not counting for badges

Why can't activities from Zwift and other 3-party apps count towards Badges, VO2MAX estimat and other nice Garmin functions directly on the Garmin Connect.

Why can't it use the data directly from Zwift activity.?
Ex. if i use my edge1000 to record the activity when i'm on the hometrainer it doesn't get same elevation, distance and speed as the Zwift workout
seens it only counts how fast the hometrainer is rotating, watts from my power meter and Heartrate.
But it doesn't know the environment i'm doing the workout in, and therefore it doesn't know the distance i'm riding

Instead many are doing alot of work working getting around this problem so there activities looks like it is recorded on an Garmin device. (downloading FIT files and uploading again from Garmin device)

All this just make me like not wanting to use Garmin Connect and instead use another app for my training data.
even though i like the Garmin Connect app overview and i use alot of Garmin devices (ex. heartrate, watch, bike-computer)
it just demotivating to see that all the work i do just doesn't count because of it not being recorded on an Garmin device

Why do you want us to simultaneously record it on an Garmin device and upload incorrect data.
How is that better..?

  • it only counts how fast the hometrainer is rotating, watts from my power meter and Heartrate.

That's exactly what is needed and fully sufficient for the performance metrics. The virtual track, elevation, map and speed are indeed only virtual, just for fun, and in no way helpful or necessary for the metrics Garmin Connect works with. Keep your Zwift data at Zwift, and your Garmin data at Garmin, and you will get your badges.

  • The point is that if i ride up Alpe du Zwift,
My edge1000 will say that i have gone 35km at 30km/t and 0 elevation
But in Zwift the workout it says 13km at 12km/t and 1100m elevation

so after an off-season Zwift will say something like 1500km, 4000m elevation
And on Garmin it says 3000km, 0m elevation.
in my opinion thats not the same.

Cut also do a workout for Z1 Zwift controls the hometrainer but i put the bike in the highest gear
After an hour Garmin will think that i have gone 60km/t
That way I can get the badges in no time, is that better for the overall Garmin profiles.?
What is the matter with using the Zwift workout as they are even though they are not recorded with an Garmin device.?
You know have to do it, it has worked before.

  • so after an off-season Zwift will say something like 1500km, 4000m elevation

Those are just virtual numbers. What counts for your training is the power, work you've put into the workouts, and energy you burned. For that, the data from the powermeter, speed sensor, and HR sensor are fully sufficient. All other are just gimmicks for the fun, in no relation to the physical work you really did.

What is the matter with using the Zwift workout

That's the right question! You can also use Garmin's native Tacx app instead, and have all the data you want, including the elevation, while getting the badges for it too.

  • Ahh so there we have it, Garmin only want users that not only use there devices but also there app.
    so much for open surge.

    Thanks for you answers
but sorry I will continue to use Zwift because of the big social network, and all the events going on there.
that means more than Garmin badges and VO2MAX estimation.

  • Use whatever you want, but then do not complain you do not get Garmin badges, when you use neither their hardware nor their software for recording you activities. Get your badges at Zwift, when you prefer using Zwift.

BTW, you can also use both of the two apps concurrently, and would profit from the advantages on both sides.

  • Okay again thanks for the answers
    And sorry I asked
