BUG: resetting HR zones overrides real max HR, too

First of all resetting HR zones works fine in GC web.

But if you do the same within GCM IOS not just the percentages go back to default, but you get a fake max HR. In my case it is 220-age, which may be a coincidence, of course, but I think it is not.

This bug persists anywhere, in cycling hr zones, in running hr zones and in the basic hr zones marking with a heart icon.

The bug is present independently from which method is set, % of LT, % of MHR , % of HRR.

It is not a huge problem, but since GC web works differently and respects max HR, it can confuse users depending on where they use the reset function.

You could say that maybe GCM IOS is the one which works as intended, but let me remark that LT HR is not overriden in case of a Reset, so why the heck MHR should be overriden?

Point taken. ;-)

  • I believe this may be device related, and not a bug in the app: I just tested it on my GC app iOS, and it does not happen with my Instinct 2, at all. I tried different combinations, with the Max HR auto-detection on and off, with Max HR based HR Zones, as well as with LTHR based ones. Resetting the HR Zones never changes the Max HR value, whatever I enter there.

I recommend posting it rather to the subforum for your watch model, or reporting directly to the Support.

  • I see. What you wrote sounded logical, but having seen your answer I tested it after I chose not just my Enduro, but my Edge 530 and my Fenix 6X. In all cases I get the same fake max HR.

So even if F6X and Enduro have the sam sw, the chance is pretty low that these 3 devices have the same bug, because Edge 530 has a totally different sw version released many months earlier.

Btw what version of GCM do you use? Mine is 4.70.0.25.

  • Btw what version of GCM do you use?

    4.70.1.4

  • So before I report it support I would need somebody else to test it with the very same version in wich I accidently observed it.

    Anyway thx.

  • Well, I think there is no need to report it to the Support, if it is a bug in an older version. Rather check for updates of the app, or wait a few hours or days if it was not rolled out for your location or device yet.

  • Oops, I misread yours as 4.70.0.14.

  • But the same happens in 4.70.1.4, at least to me.

fyki my max hr auto detection is off for many months, all the other auto detections are on.

  • If i simply change from LTHR ranges to MHR ranges, my max of 188 is kept correctly:

  • My HR Zones for Instinct 2 look differently - there are only percentages:

Not sure whether the upper value at HRZ5 labeled Max Hear Rate has any significance at all. I think any HR higher than the lower limit of the Z5 will be listed as Z5 anyway. I recommend verifying it on some activities where the HR was frequently above the wrong "MHR".

What is more important, is whether the Max HR changed in the Heart Rate settings too. I have it listed at Instinct 2 device » User Profile » Heart Rate & Power Zones » Heart Rate » Max HR and it never changes regardless how I reset the zones.

  • That’s exactly the problem.

All of my 3 devices show 168 bpm as max hr after resetting instead of the previous correct 188 bpm.

The workaround is not to use Reset at all.

It is pretty interesting that you use the same version of gcm, also ios, not android, but your watch triggers another menu layout for hr zones. Maybe Instinct 2 can have just one, universal hr zone setting? No separate sports hr zones?
