BUG: resetting HR zones overrides real max HR, too

First of all resetting HR zones works fine in GC web.

But if you do the same within GCM IOS not just the percentages go back to default, but you get a fake max HR. In my case it is 220-age, which may be a coincidence, of course, but I think it is not.

This bug persists anywhere, in cycling hr zones, in running hr zones and in the basic hr zones marking with a heart icon.

The bug is present independently from which method is set, % of LT, % of MHR , % of HRR.

It is not a huge problem, but since GC web works differently and respects max HR, it can confuse users depending on where they use the reset function.

You could say that maybe GCM IOS is the one which works as intended, but let me remark that LT HR is not overriden in case of a Reset, so why the heck MHR should be overriden?

Point taken. ;-)

  • Maybe Instinct 2 can have just one, universal hr zone setting? No separate sports hr zones?

No, I have one general, and three sports-specific HR Zones (run, bike, swim). I tested it with all of them. Resetting any of them has no impact on my Max HR.

  • Did you try the reset directly on the devices? Does it reset the Max HR in the same way, on each of them?

On Instinct 2, I have it in Menu » User Profile » Heart Rate & Power Zones » Heart Rate » Zones

For the testing, I recommend disabling the BT on the phone, to exclude the possibility that the MHR value is somehow overwritten due to Physio TrueUp from the other devices.

  • Now I tried. If I reset the zones, eg on F6X, my max hr stays the same.

    So the device works perfectly.

  • Now I tried. If I reset the zones, eg on F6X, my max hr stays the same.

Try syncing all your devices afterwards, and verify again the Max HR on all of them. The Physio TrueUp (actually the Unified Training Status on compatible devices) may play some role in it. I only use one device (+ a HRM-Pro). Which of your watches is set as the Primary Wearable Device? Did you reset the zones on it, or on another one?

    1. I tried on Edge 530, too. It has a different menu item. Under Training Zones I could do the reset zones. No effect on max hr.

GCM was not running, BT was off.

So some sort of data is stuck in GCM as max hr, which is not visible, just after a reset.

I might try an uninstall and resinstall of gcm, although it would be a real PITA with 3 devices.

  • It is Enduro. It is the only one I did not use in this reset test. Until now.

  • I reset it on Enduro, too.

    bt is on, gcm starts

syncs, also manually just in case

Max hr on all the 3 devices are correct

Max hr are correct in gcm, too.

Reset hr zones in gcm, still the buggy 168 pops up.

Sidenote: my cycling max hr is different from the basic and the running max hr, but i dont think it plays a role.

  • I forgot to conclude that based on these above it is a Support issue.

  • Well well well, today I experienced an issue which I had never ever had. I got a new running LTHR and LT pace. Also LTHR changed, but even if it was shown not just on my watch, but I can see the same new number on “running LT” page, LTHR values were not updated in HR zones. Neither on running hr zones page, nor on the basic hr zones page with a heart icon on the top.

I wonder whether it is connected to the incorrect max hr after reseting bug, or it is something new which came just with the latest version of gcm.

Btw if I reset the zones, or change the method from %LT to something else and back, it does not change the LTHR value. So it seems that the link/sync between the real LTHR and the one displayed in gcm in hr zones pages seems to be broken.

  • I did all what you kindly proposed. Do you have any other idea what to try?

In the meantime I had a max hr test run and I could achieve I even higher max HR (188) than the one which had been sett as max hr(186).

Max hr detection had been switched off, but I hoped that this new data helps to eliminate the fake max hr (168) which always pops up in case of hr zones resetting.

No, it did not eliminate. I also wonder where the heck this fake max hr number is stored???

It is like there are two max hr values are stored, an automatic one, and a manual one.

Just to remind everybody, if I change the “based on” to max hr method from the present lt method, max hr stays at 188, correctly. If I reset using any methods, 168 will be the new max hr.
