Newbie asking about features in Garmin smart watch thinking upgrading from fit bit

Hi I recently bided on a garmin viovactive HR model on ebay.

I was thinking of potentially using this to replace a type of smart watch fit bit model I have.

I was thinking that Garmin watches are better for tracking cycling - right?

It says on this model on the website that there is a sleep tracking function. I found with my fit bit it is not the best at tracking sleep (with heart rate). Do Garmin watches track sleeping similar to fit bits?

Thanks anyone reading, please help

  • viovactive HR model on ebay

The vivoactive HR was released in 2016. There have been a lot of advances and improvements with Garmin watches since then, both in cycling and sleep tracking. I would be reluctant to purchase a used (or even new) piece of tech that is nearly 7 years old. So comparing this watch to any watch from the current Fitbit lineup would not be valid.

  • Thanks seliogramp

I recently sold a type of Garmin cycle computer on ebay Garmin edge model

I was just looking for a general smart watch cheap that does activity sport tracking because I think I am going to give away a model of fit bit inspire 2 that I have, I am not really interested in expensive “current line ups” (“I am poor”)

I think pros of Garmin is it is better at tracking cycling right

When I used fit bit, I am not 100% sure on the type of graphic/interphace

The Garmin cycle computer I used – I preferred the graphic

I was having other thoughts asking you stuff like what model of smart watch do you have?

How long have you been on these forums?

  • what model of smart watch do you have?

Currently I'm using the Epix Gen 2. Not recommended if you have a limited budget. The Forerunner 45 or 55 might suit you better.

How long have you been on these forums?

About 14 years. Basically, since day one in 2009. This might be my first post on the then "new" forum: Motionbased - Garmin Connect Web - Mobile Apps & Web - Garmin Forums

And even before when it was Motionbased before Garmin acquired it in 2005

  • Thanks for the response

I have "Autism", I am doing chleation proctol to try to heal myself.

I was just looking to get a simple Garmin/fitness tracker to help me structure exercise mainly

I think becuase of my symptoms it makes it hard for myself to perform with exercise

Which is why I want a simple fitness tracker, it doesn't necessarily need to be cheap, I am not necessarily poor, I am mercury poisoned from v@ccines.

Seliogramp so you have been into fitness/running for a long time then using these fourms since 2005 where it is now 2023?

    yes

That's so for everyone on this forum. User profiles are not public. You can only see some very basic info in the mouse-over popup window, when you hold a mouse cursor (without clicking) over the avatar of a user.

  • "Do you see anything wrong with using an older less advance smart watch from 2016 to structure exercise?

  • You best look at the specifications on Garmin's website, and see whether they fulfill your needs. A 6-7 years old watch risks to have a battery with limited capacity, but if you do not mind it, and do not mind not having any warranty, and if the functions it offers are sufficient for your needs, then there is certainly nothing wrong on it.
