Forerunner 945 WILL NOT pair with iPhone

Hi all - I’m in desperate need of help. 

My FR945 has been working fine since originally purchasing in early 2021. 

Then, 2 days ago, my latest run activity wouldn’t sync to Garmin Connect on my iPhone, not upload the activity via wifi/Garmin Express.  

I’ve searched the internet high & low for a solution - have gone through all the listed troubleshooting protocols for pairing a device, removed & reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, even a hard reset of the watch - but nothing is working, and my iPhone just cannot find the FR945 when I put it in pairing mode. 

The watch is less than 18 months old, and has always worked perfectly, until now… The inability to upload or sync to Garmin Connect is a huge inconvenience.

Any help to fix my (re)pairing issue is most gratefully appreciated!

  • Thanks for the thoughts. I’ve updated to iOS15, but still not getting any love.

    Tried calling Garmin, but couldn’t get through (I live in Japan, but purchased the watch from the US). 

    Feel helpless, like I’m dying a slow death here, and shouldn’t be happening after less than 18 months of use. Time to switch brands??

  • Ok let me give some thought as I had an issue re-pairing this am when I removed a device...

  • Do you know whet it lost the pairing initially?  Today I had to go through the process with my 955 and it took a while.  1. Deleted Gc App. 2. Forgot Device in iOS Bluetooth settings. 3, Hard restart iPhone, 4, Hard Restart Forerunner 5. Download latest GC App and open it , login to your GC account. 6 It normally then asks if you need to add a device 7, Select teh device from teh detailed list of devices 8. On the Forerunner go to settings > connections > Phone > and select pair,  With luck then the GC app should find the device and ask you to enter the Pairing code that appears on the Watch Face.

    I've tried all these steps - still no luck..

    Do you think this is a process I should keep repeating with the hope that one lucky try may work?

    I'm completely bamboozled way the bluetooth is just not connecting between the devices.

  • Have you tried changing the country in your Garmin profile? Japan got its own Forerunner models. Set country to United States and see if that makes any difference.

  • @ e7andy OMG, that worked!!

    No idea how my settings switched to Japanese, but setting to US let me pair the watch immediately!!

    So happy again, and a massive thanks to all for the help with solving this problem. Much appreciated! Joy

  • I have the same problem with my Forunner 945 today. After turning off my Garmin watch and pair it again with my new iphone, it works finally. Here is what I did:

    1) Turn off Garmin watch by pressing the left upper + 2 buttons at the right side of your watch for 15 seconds

    2) Ppress the left upper button for 1-3 seconds to reopen it.

    3)go to the Garmin Watch's paring mode 

    4) open Garmin Connect and find the device (actually I even deleted my garmin Connect and re-install it but I think this is not neccessary, the key is to turn the watch off) 

    5) input the number shown on watch face 

    6) paring successful!
