While biking accuracy on VS4 was ok and I never had issues. On VS5 GPS signal is lost if network coverage is poor. Even if network is good (city) on the same track it can measure distance that is as high as 50% off. Any thoughts?

You can try enabling the option GPS+Galileo option in the settings of the Cycling activity, and Every Second Recording in the global system settings. Delete the EPO or CPE file in the folder //GARMIN/REMOTESW/ and sync with Garmin Express just before the ride, to make sure you have fresh ephemeris data.
If it does not help, consider either using the Speed sensor, or having the watch replaced.
I fail to find the options you provided in my setup.
The point is that VS series use gps from my phone. This works well if the network is ok the track view is continuous and looks legit but still the distance it shows can vary widely. Say harder effort gives longer distances...

Ah OK, I see, in that case you indeed do not have any GPS related options on your watch. It is either your phone to be blamed, or perhaps the Bluetooth connection drops. Check the app permission, and verify whether the app has a stable BT connection (steps and HR being updated live on the GCM app, and having a green dot on the circle around the watch symbol, without interruption).

... rereading again - it you tell the distance is wrong even when the track is OK, then the watch probably uses just the accelerometer to guess your speed and distance. It may be a bug, or some wrong setting, but I am not familiar with the Vivosmart series, so cannot help much. You better move the thread to the VS5 forum (click More » Move under your opening post), where you are more likely to get an answer from someone using the same device, or perhaps even from the Garmin staff.
