Resting heart rate, adjust after a while in the morning?

I have noticed that when i get upp up in the morning, my resting heart rate, after sync, have changed slightly since the day before.
Nothing strange there of course. But usually it changes one more time within an hour. And then never again that day?

Today for instance, i had 52 yesterday, i had 60 in the first adjustment after sync this morning. And now one hour later 55.
Anyone noticed this? i have sleep/bed hours set between 22-06

Thank you for contacting Garmin Support.  The number you see on the Garmin Connect Mobile App "My Day" page for heart rate listed as "Resting" is the 7 day "rolling" Resting HR value.

By design, when you wake up you will see this number as it relates to your last night's sleep's RHR.  As the watch further determines your sleep window from last night it may make an adjustment to that number that better correlates to the rolling average Resting Heart Rate.  This is basically the same as the way your sleep statistics will often see a similar recalculation after a period of time has passed after waking and the watch recognizes you are definitely no longer in a sleep window.

Explained here:  "Sleep windows may recalculate throughout the day to verify and distinguish between waking up early and going back to sleep vs being up for the entire day. You may notice slight variances in your complete sleep window as these calculations update. Even with these recalculations, sleep monitoring can still stop if the device detects movement that indicates you've entered an "awake" state for an extended period of time during the night."  from this article on sleep statistics:  Viewing Sleep Statistics and Details in Garmin Connect

So basically, once you are up and moving around for the day, the watch will replace the "Resting" number with the new calculation of the 7 day rolling value for Resting HR.

I hope this helps, it's a bit difficult to explain but what you are seeing is by design and not any sort of error.

So there we go a little bit of both, thanks Garmin!

  • Hmm, ok thanks!  Yeah mine has adjusted back down to 63 every day as the day goes on.  Though, if what they’re saying is true then I would think my RHR is actually higher then they’re showing because every morning when I first wake up its closer to 66-68, yet adjusts back down to a RHR of 63.  That doesn’t seem like its a 7 day average.....

  • Weeeeell, that’s what he said anyway  Slight smile

I guess it fluctuates around a few parameters.

But I’m pretty happy with the answer.
