Garmin connect is unavailable on this mobile device during a virtual activity.

I have a Fenix 6xPro Solar and if the Phone connection is disabled on my watch then the app won’t start. It shows the message:

Virtual Activity

Garmin connect is unavailable on this mobile device during a virtual activity.

What does it mean? Why the app won’t start? If I disable the BT connection on my phone, then the app starts but shows message that BT is disabled  this is obviously correct.
If I disable the connection from my watch then the app shows this stupid Virtual Activity message.

  • Hi Leivo similar error message with Forerunner 745. Tried to add a speed sensor to Garmin Connect and it crashes with the same message. Restart the app spin the wheel start the connection process app crashes with the same error message. Brought a speed and cadence sensor and can't connect either because it is considered by the app as a virtual activity whatever that is. Guess the lack of a reply to this post means that there software development is buggy and they haven't got to these issues yet. Disappointing.

  • This may be a minor solution, but I found that this problem happens on Garmin Connect when I have my 945 transmitting heart rates. I turned off the 945 HR transmission and the virtual activity went away.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I turned off the 745 and still can't connect the speed sensor 2 it cannot complete the setup as it displays the virtual activity error message. Annoying to say the least.

I just bought a Speed Sensor 2 as well, and it’s doing exactly the same thing! Playing with Bluetooth settings doesn’t help, unfortunately. It’s basically unusable.... Probably just going to return it, as this bug renders it permanently defective.

  • Change the hr broadcast to off it will stop doing it

  • I'm an OW swimmer. Got the same issue on my Garmin Instinct solar... No idea what it is I don't use any external monitors as this model has a heart monitor built in on the wrist which works in water. Any help gratefully received. Thanks

  • My Fenix watch was set to the heartrate monitoring position showing HR and time only. As soon as I went back to my regular watchface this problem was resolved.

  • My Fenix 6x Saphire was set to view HR and time only using the round dial; and as soon as I reverted to my regular watchface this problem was resolved.

  • Was the issue resolved when you changed to a watchface without the HR?

Which watchface did you use when you had the issue?

  • Worked perfectly thanks.
