ATTN: iOS Users with issues after updating to iOS 13

I Am Having Issues with My Garmin Watch After Updating to iOS 13 on My iPhone

With the released of iOS 13, some changes in the way that your Garmin device communicates with your phone have changed.  Review the following symptoms which should solve your issue.

The Garmin Connect app displays the message "Bluetooth is turned off"

iOS 13 requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Connect app.  Below are steps to enable this setting.

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Scroll down and select Connect

  3. Toggle Bluetooth Sharing on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.

Update your phone to iOS 13.3.1

Why Do I Need to Keep Signing Into the Garmin Connect App on My Phone?

Garmin is aware of an issue where the Garmin Connect app requires you to sign in when you open the app on an Apple phone.  This can occur when:

  • The phone is rebooted
  • The battery on the phone runs out of charge
  • Some reports of the issue randomly occurring

Apple has released a software update for your phone that corrects this issue. To download and install  OS 13.3.1, refer to the following Apple instructions: Update your iPhone, IPad, or iPod Touch

  • I believe that this “ do you want to share location - allow always or while using the app “ is an ugly hack:
It is quite hard, to get your app to wake up regularly. Dropbox, for example, decided to use the same location hack to wake up their app. They use this to implement their background camera upload. In iOS 13 Apple decided to add a notification to inform the user that the app has implemented such an unwanted behavior that drains your battery and often hurts your privacy.

Here is a link to dropbox explanation of why they use location data:

  • I can’t get my text notifications no matter what I do and I used to get them just fine

  • I'm having exactly the same issue, watch and mobile have worked perfectly for the last 12 months until upgrading to iOS 13, any advice Garmin ?

  • Former Member please note that I am having the same issues with no upload possible and I am not even on iOS 13.  I still use iOS 12 on both an iPhone SE and an iPhone 6.  The iPhone 6 cannot even be upgraded to iOS 13, does it mean that Garmin is dropping support???

I wish there was a way to go back to an older version to the Garmin App :(

  • Erasing data in watch through a reset and pairing as a new watch seems to have helped me... but make sure you upload and save all your data through desktop to your gramin connect account before doing that...

  • One of the following updates did recently seems to have solved the unpairing issue between the Edge 1030 and the iPhone XS

    - iOS 13.2

    - Edge 1030 Firmware version 9.0

    - Garmin Connect App 4.24.1

    HTH

  • Got finally an answer from Garmin. Hi! Garmin has discovered what is causing the issue with our devices and SmartPhone Link and are working on a solution. We appreciate your patience during this time. Please DM us with your email address we will contact you when we have a solution. Thank you.

  • I’m still not getting notifications on my iPhone and have followed all troubleshooting ideas.

  • My Bluetooth toggle was on after my iOS 13 upgrade. I toggled it off and back on and all is FIXED!  I’ve had iPhones for years and toggling switches on and off frequently fixes issues after updates! Good luck I hope this works for you.
