I Am Having Issues with My Garmin Watch After Updating to iOS 13 on My iPhone

With the released of iOS 13, some changes in the way that your Garmin device communicates with your phone have changed.  Review the following symptoms which should solve your issue.

iOS 13 requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Connect app.  Below are steps to enable this setting.

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  3. Toggle Bluetooth Sharing on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.

Update your phone to iOS 13.3.1

Why Do I Need to Keep Signing Into the Garmin Connect App on My Phone?

Garmin is aware of an issue where the Garmin Connect app requires you to sign in when you open the app on an Apple phone.  This can occur when:

  • The phone is rebooted
  • The battery on the phone runs out of charge
  • Some reports of the issue randomly occurring

Apple has released a software update for your phone that corrects this issue. To download and install  OS 13.3.1, refer to the following Apple instructions: Update your iPhone, IPad, or iPod Touch

  • My point was actually about the seeming hypocrisy of directing users to make feature suggestions to another manufacturer, when these forums are full of strongly supported suggestions that aren’t even acknowledge by Garmin. Whether it’s custom strength exercises or improved sleep tracking.

With regards customers confidence in your Product Support teams ability to fix  these particular issues, I think many of us will be wondering if this will receive similar prompt attention as Physio Trueup, which still doesn’t work properly after months of users pointing out the problems or the broken commitment, several versions ago, that the next version of GCM would fix the nonsense waking and running distances being sent to Apple Health.

  • I’m on IOS 13.1 with an 11 Pro Max, and a Fenix 6X sapphire. I have enabled always show on messages as well as share system notifications. My watch is on the latest 4.10 and I still don’t get IMessages .. gmail notifications show up and so do outlook emails.

I’ve also deleted garmin connect, forgot Bluetooth device and done a complete reset of watch.

    Please fix this

  • Set your phone notifications to when unlocked. It worked for me.

  • Set your notifications to when unlocked. This did it for me.

    Bitte schnell fixen

  • I have followed every steps, updates and still not have text message notifications. Very disappointing.

  • The weird thing is my iphone gets ALL notifications execept iMessages it worked at first now it doesn't.

iphone pro 11 max, 13.1 brand new fenix 6x sapphire on 4.x

  • Same here. My phone date has back dated to the previous day and time displays wrong. Even if I put the time in manually the date is still wrong. What to do?

  • iPhone 11. OS 13.1.2

Garmin Edge 830 on latest software

Totally unable to pair my Edge.

I can see and connect to device in iPhone Bluetooth settings but I cannot ‘fully pair’ device in Garmin Connect app

Have tried altering notification settings as you advise. No help.

What is being done to sort this matter?

  • Hello,

On an iPhone 11, with iOS 13.1.2 the Vivoactive 3 Music displays a lack of bluetooth connection. When you open Garmin Connect, the watch is not connected. Still, I'm getting the notifications on it.
