Auto Start LiveTrack - not functioning

Former Member

Found this with the new 4.18 update.

Previously from the menu I could activate the auto feature, back out and it would save that preference, then the app would auto track with each start of my Edge. Now after the update, I turn on the feature along with selecting the Strava beacon option, back out and the changes made are not saved.

To get the auto to work, I've found that I have to keep the menu open with buttons activated, then start my ride.

What is the point of selecting auto start if the app/menu has to be open on the phone at the same time? Defeats the purpose....

Has anyone else run into this, or have a possible work around?

Thanks

are you still experiencing problems? i updated to the laster software version last week and i'm still experiencing problems

  • Garmin Live Track feature has been a joke so far with my IOS.   Although it is not a joke since part of the reason I spent the big dollars is for that feature.   Garmin you should be ashamed.  I am tech savvy and it is set up properly.   It works maybe 25% of the time.  Even when ensuring at the start that the phone is connected device, etc.

  • Mine has not worked for months. Also, why do I have to choose between my Fenix 3 or edge 1000? Surely it can detect which device I’ve started a session with ? Very poor

I always have the Connect app running on my iOS-based phone and I currently have a 100% failure rate for LiveTrack to automatically start, whether I have Strava Beacon integration configured or not.  Fenix 5 with the latest 13.30 update, latest release iOS for iPhone 7 and latest Connect app

Frankly, this is a safety issue because we all assume this will work. For me, at least, I want it to  send something to my safety contacts to let them track my location during an activity. When it does not, Garmin is putting me at risk.

How do we troubleshoot this? Seriously. People are trying toggling settings on and off seemingly randomly and sometimes they work.. but, where is Garmin's FAQ for how to narrow down the issue, or an admission that it does not work and they're working on it.

Tell us it is broken and not to use it. At least that's better than leaving it configured, hoping it will work and seeing the dreaded "LiveTrack Failed" alert during my activity.  That just makes me angry, and I am not alone. Not by a long shot.   Any tech support person who tells you that your LiveTrack issue is "just you" is not telling you the truth. The "feature" is a mess.

  • The auto live track feature is also not working for me since months. In about 90% it give me a failure after some minutes and says “Live track failed”.  The even bigger problem is that when I start live track manually then the app always crashes after some time and the live track is disrupted. That happens in 100% of my activities.

As a result the live track feature is broken since months is Garmin does not care about it. I’m really frustrated with that because the feature works very well before they broke it and I felt very comfortable with that “live insurance” on my Mountainbike trips or nightly runs in winter time.

It’s really frustrating to see that Garmin is releasing one device after another instead of fixing bugs and making sure that the expensive premium devices are reliable tools.

  • I am new on 1030 and I am wondering about the "random live track" - so here I can read that I am not alone. Thanks.

GARMIN: Please fix that issue! FAST.

  • With the latest version of Connect I see that Live Track is now starting almost every time automatically every time I start an activity. Every second time it starts with an delay of about 8 minutes.

I thought it runs stable trough an activity but yesterday Connect crashed as during an activity.

So it seems Garmin did something about it, but they did not resolve all the bugs around this functionality.

As it behaves now it’s still not reliable.

  • I swear this works barely 50% of the time. It's obvious Garmin hasn't prioritized making these features reliable at all considering the number of posts. I shouldn't have to go through a cycle of turning bt, wifi, device, "on/off" reconnecting, re-installing, rebooting, while pedalling with only 1 foot backwards to get it to work. Absolutely unacceptable. It also means incident detection is probably just as worthless as well - so what's the point of these features if they aren't even supported properly? Edge 830 v3.5.0 and iOS latest version.

  • After a couple of activities with the latest version of GC it‘s just frustrating to see that Garmin does nothing to fix this functionality. If it starts (at all 50%) automatically, it starts delayed by around 8 minutes. All the times the app crashed during the activity and Livetrack stopped.

Dear Garmin please fix existing functionalities with a high priority instead of working on new products to frustrate new clients with buggy firmware. That’s not a way to build a solid customer relationship.

  • I too had a problem but have found that by going into location services and setting it to “always” - not just while using app it’s worked consistently
