Garmin Connect prompts me to setup Vivosmart 4 every time I open the app

Every time I open my Garmin Connect app it congratulates me on buying a Vivosmart 4 and prompts me to set it up. I’ve been using a Vivosmart 4 since October. Its been working fine. Nothing has changed in my setup except 3 days ago Garmin Connect App updated.

I have tried to go through the setup on my Vivosmart 4 again to see if that would make the prompts disappear, but the next time I open the app it wants me to setup the Vivosmart 4 again. I also own a Fenix 5s and an Edge 1030 and both of those are fine. They are not getting prompted to setup again.

I wouldn’t mind since it is working in every other way, but each time I open the app I must click through two setup screens to get to my data. Anyone know how to fix this? Or is it going to take an update to the app?

    This is happening for my wife and her Vivosmart 4, also. It started on Saturday or Sunday (3/9 or 3/10). She has had to go through the set up at least a dozen times. Id doesn't sound to me like an issue with the device, so sending yours for a replacement wouldn't help. We thought it had something to do with her iPhone going in the laundry for a little while, but apparently not.

    I am not experiencing this with my Forerunner 645.


    I agree that the Rep's conclusion to send it back isn't acceptable nor do I think it will resolve anything. I got mine for Christmas and had no issue until now, so unless the device is just a complete dud, there has to be something going on with the app, seeing as how that's where the Watch Face and set up is done. For now, I'm using it, just not as a time piece, and hoping to see a fix soon.

    Just curious what version of the mobile app ya'll have. I don't have a recent update listed when I go to the App Store updates, but then again I deleted the app so maybe that deleted the update history as well. Anywho, mine is showing version 4.16.0.17. As far as the Watch Face problem I have goes, the option is there to select one, but it just doesn't display one. My device just defaulted to the Body Battery widget on Friday 3/8/19. I'm not seeing anything about this issue from others with the Vivosmart 4, so I'm kinda concerned that it is not part of the constant set up issue and maybe I have something else going on.
  • I’m experiencing exactly the same issue and feel for the one that was instructed to delete their device and data only to be told it’s the device. I’ve had mine since the end of last September having purchased it the first day it became available at Best Buy. This problem coincided with the most recent app update only a few days ago. v4.16.0.17

    Same issue here, since last week. My Fenix 5S does not have this problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Fenix 5S (or my old Forerunner 235) doing this kind of setup wizard in the beginning. Maybe this is why it's not a problem for these devices? Or maybe Fenix did have some kind of setup, but the settings now look different compared to those of Vivosmart 4, so maybe there is something different that causes this for Vivosmart but not Fenix.

    +1, same issue that I have

    spoke with support: they asked for the app and sync logs - so I sent them yesterday and haven't heard anything back yet

    just to clarify, I've been using my new Vivosmart 4 just for 4 days, so for me connect app version 4.16 was the first one I installed when I synced my device

    since people say that they didn't have such issue before, it seems to me like definitely the issue with software rather than device hardware
  • +1 on this one for me as well, it started after the last GC update. I’ve tried everything I can think of apart from replacing the physical device; however none of my Fenix 5X, Edge 820 and Edge 1030 show the same behavior. My VivoSmart worked great before the GC update. I’m on 4.16.0.17.

    It also worked perfectly until last GC update, I can bypass the initial setup or do it at every start of GC the result is the same, and the device got finally synced, so not that's bad, just a little bit annoying.

    Me too. I’ve been using my vivosmart 4 since January and then since updating the app yesterday I’ve been getting this error.
    come on Garmin fix this please it’s mega annoying.

    Since updating the app last weekend/beginning of the week I have the same problems. Waiting anxiously for the app update.
