[Help/Rant] Garmin Connect syncs but activity does not shows up?

Be new user of Fenix 5S. Two days gym hypertrophy training.
Yesterday sync was fine. Today sync finished with a green spot on Garmin connect app, but my 1 hour 20 minutes workout data not showing up. Cool beans, 50% failure rate.
Tried everything: iOS latest version, firmware seems updated to 4.9.0.14 last night by itself. Disconnect wifi, blue tooth, restart iPhone, restart app. Sync over and over again. The activity data can be found in the watch, just refuse to appear on Garmin connect app or web version.
Try to locate and search if there is force sync option, didn't find any.
Try to search on watch if there is manual upload option from activities, didn't find any.

Fine...Manually edit online, 25 different weight training activities with time/reps/weight/name (and there is no such thing called "close grip bent over barbell row" according to Garmin's search result), plus an indoor rowing without a field to fill in strokes per minute...

Earlier today tried to link the Garmin with Nike Run Club, failed like 10 times (coz I tried 10 times of mini run), finally succeeded after I unlink then link again...

Feeling painful and pathetic, felt I had better experience without this device...
Don't really need to know how many steps I do everyday anyways.

Do this kind of things happen a lot? Software failures? Sync failures? Any suggestions for this type data losing during sync but stored fine locally on the watch?
  • Syncing with Garmin can be a bag of hurt on far too many occasions. It can work fine for weeks, then suddenly stop working for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Are you sure the data hasn't synced? If you're just looking on the "My Day" view on the app, that's seriously glitchy at the moment when it comes to showing stuff. Have you tried looking under More>Activities>All Activities on the app? And have you tried looking at Garmin Connect on a computer?

Even if it definitely hasn't synced, then the activity should still be on your watch, so if you've got a computer you can connect the watch via the USB charging cable and sync it using Garmin Express then that should work. If even that fails, if you connect your 5S to your computer with the charging cable it should appear as a drive called GARMIN. If you double-click on the drive and then go into GARMIN>ACTIVITIES you should find the .fit file of your activity in there. Copy it to your computer, and then you can manually import it into Garmin Connect (or any alternative platform you like).
  • Hi NeilJonesOnline:

Thanks a ton! I checked the connect app there are no those activties even I synced multiple times.

But! It did work when I installed a garmin communicator pluggin, manually pulled .fit files and upload and imported on garmin connect web app. Two of those files were not synced according to the webapp and now the activities showed up... Now they are there YAY

But tbh this is quite painful experience...

    Thanks again!

  • I had this problem and fixed it.  The issue is probably that the .fit file is corrupt/damaged.  Plug your watch into your computer and open the drive, then go to activities and find the activity in question.  Download it to your computer and try uploading it to Garmin directly.  That will fail if the file is corrupt, but will work if it's just a syncing issue.  If the file is corrupt, go to http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ and upload the damaged file there.  Then convert to autofix.fit file and save that download to your computer.  Then upload that file to Garmin and it should show up fine.

  • Metrics like steps were loading but activities were not. I also could upload the files manually so they weren't corrupted. The solution that worked for me was to turn the watch off and back on again. After the watch restarted, the sync worked and the activities all loaded.

  • I'm having this exact problem and Garmin cannot seem to fix it. Everything is up to date, a daily activities will not appear. I also can't go to activities and see any activities. I'm wanting to buy a new Garmin watch so I hope this is going to get fixed

  • Exact situation and they try to make it sound rare  I have a one plus phone.

  • Same thing is happening to me. When I try to sync manually to Garmin Connect using the USB cable and my laptop, it says there is an error and the .fit files cannot be synced.

  • , if you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file being corrupt. Attach it to this thread. We can look to see if it is repairable.

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, etc., make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.
  • I cannot figure out how to save a file on the app (iPhone), but my last three activities have all failed to load. They show are being there but no details are available. What should my next step be?

  • Have you checked for updates of the app?
