LiveTrack Issues

Since the latest Garmin Connect update on iOS, LiveTrack is now just about completely useless.

The beginning of the ride shows up and that's it.

Since this problem, I have:

1) Uninstalled Garmin Connect and re-installed it
2) Unpaired / Paired Edge 1000 to iPhone
3) Factory Reset on Edge 1000

Many people with Edge 1000s have the same problem. See Edge 1000 Forum (https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?354317-LiveTrack-Issues)

All components are on latest software/firmware.

Also, at the end of the ride, the autosync feature no longer works. In fact, stopping the iOS app and/or restarting the Edge 1000 fails to make it sync. I must power down the iPhone, restart it, then restart the Edge 1000 and Garmin Connect and I will get it to sync.

Furthermore, *IF* the iPhone goes through an area where there is no cell service, the iOS app never reconnects to the Garmin servers and the ride dies there...

Ideas / Comments ?
  • Same problem on Edge 1000

Same problem. Live Track stops tracking a couple of minutes or few hundred meters into a ride. Then connection issues and that's it. On Edge 1000 and Garmin Connect app for iOS on iPhone 6. Used to work fine not long ago. Is anyone fixing this? My family relies on this feature a lot. Get to work, Garmin.
  • same on Fenix3

i noticed the same problems, a few seconds track, than connect issue..
    i run 7.2 on fenix 3
    using iPhone 6SE running 9.3.2
    with the latest version connect
    .
i'm not 100% sure but i think the problems started with the last connect update.
    .
strangely, if i end the activity or live track, i can finally see the track on my "extended" live track page.
    .
    just happend again this morning

    FR920XT & Edge 520 - Same Issue

I am frustrated. It always gave my wife peace of mind when she could see me "still moving" and therefore likely okay.

Come on Garmin. Help us out here!!! I've personally spent thousands of $$ on your products and this issue has been going on for a while now.

I've commented in this thread but wanted to add that LiveTrack seems to die (in my case) consistently at the 15-17 minute mark.

Just sent another request to Garmin for Support (previous request not answered as yet).

I hope they will respond positively at some point.
If we all keep reporting this problem, perhaps they might notice?
I'm not sure even if Garmin monitor this forum - most forums these days seem to be user-based help only.

I also hope they respond in a timely manner. What ever they did to GCM last time around, pretty much broke most things for me - including Live Track.

Someone at Garmin needs to be a figurehead on the forums, and stick their head above the parapet to give the users some confidence that this utter mess is going to get sorted out. Otherwise it's eBay time for me.

And yes, that Twitter message is highly irritating!!

Well, the good news is that email requests for help at least get an auto-reply.
It's the in-App ones that never elicit a response for me, but then I suspect that might be that previous in-App service requests have been a 'little' on the ranty side.
Then again, it they'd actually test release code properly before release, even let us know what the hell is going on occasionally, I might not have got so frustrated with them! :D

(I also changed the email address I use in the reports in case that was being blocked)

Here is original request (I was very polite. For me. ;) )...

"Dear Sir, this is just a quick note to let you know that LiveTrack is having connection issues. The recipient of the notification cannot connect. I am not the only one facing this issue - https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?354851-LiveTrack-IssuesThank you for your attention in this matter. Regards, Susan."

  • edge 810 fails too

Hi again, my edge 810 fails as well.... first it does no start , "no signal, trying to connect" , and after apr 16 Minutes it changes to "activity ended but tracking still activ" while i was still riding my bike for another hour.
    .
messages are in german, so i might not have translated correctly.
    .
    edge 810 running on 5.1
    iphone 6SE on 9.3.2
connect mon iphone is latest version
    .
i hope this is fixed soon, because this is a real safety feature for me.

It would be helpful if there was a LiveTrack indicator on the GarminConnect status page, but there isn't: https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

I'm having exactly the same problem with my Edge 810. Live track worked perfectly last season and for my first few rides this year. Now the emails go out (but not always) and the email link brings up a map with a pin showing my start point and a message saying Live Track is trying to reconnect. Sometimes a few minutes of my ride shows up on the map before it disconnects, sometimes it just shows the start point. This is very frustrating because my wife likes to know where I am on long rides.

My training routes are the same as last year and I always have a good signal on my iPhone 5S. I tried deleting the Garmin Connect app from my phone then reinstalling and reconnecting the 810 - this did not help at all, so don't try it unless you want to lose all your ride data.

I have emailed Garmin tech support twice and got the same response both times, "Engineers are working to correct the issues with LiveTrack." This sounds like a brush off, maybe they don’t see the importance of the LiveTrack feature.

It would be great to hear if anyone comes up with a solution to this.
