Fenix 3 Bluetooth Pairing Fails

I cannot pair my Fenix 3 with the Garmin Connect Android App on my Xperia Z1 Compact.

The Fenix 3 has been registered with my Garmin Connect account through Garmin Express.
My Home Wireless network has been set up.
The device even shows up on my list of devices in the Garmin Connect Android App

I initiate pairing from the Fenix 3, which goes into 'Ready to Pair'. Then select 'Pair Device' in Garmin Connect Android App..... The search begins and after a minute of so I get the 'Device Not Found' message on the phone

I already have an Edge 1000, which has paired with the phone/app without problem

    Hello from Spain,

I have the same problem with a Xperia Z1, anyone can help us??

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi Igobec, What version of Android are you running on your Z1?

I was running 4.3 when I got my Fenix and could not get a stable bluetooth connection. I was resisting the available 4.4.4 upgrade because of the extra security on external storage 4.4.4 introduced.

I've since bit the bullet and upgraded to 4.4.4, paired the fenix via the connect app and the bluetooth connection has been pretty solid ever since.

  • Hello , sorry for my english ; - ) )
I have a fenix 3 updated to the latest software release , I tried to pair it with your Bluetooth samsung s5 and s6 but fenix was recognized by the smartphone but not by fenix . The test was done in a shopping center with different smartphone samsung .... Indeed smartphone appeared fenix 3 while the clock display the Bluetooth continued to search for the device .... I work in IT and the solution could be a new release of firmware for garmin fenix 3 , because it is impossible that in 2015 not be able to pair two Bluetooth devices after years of Bluetooth technology .

Samsung Galaxy S3 pairs (painfully) with Fenix3, but they must be paired every time when BT is turned off, and on again.

And usually you have to try several times that they pairs again....

If you are unable to pair your device with your computer, this is a device issue. It would be best to contact Garmin Product Support to properly troubleshoot this issue.

Please ensure that your device is up to date on the latest software, and you are pairing your device through Garmin Connect Mobile, not your phone's Bluetooth settings. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

Make sure the Android software on your phone is up to date.
    • Make sure the Connect Mobile application is up to date.
    • Clear the Bluetooth pair history from phone.

Android (Devices previously paired with Connect Mobile):

    1. Open the Connect Mobile app.
    2. Tap on the Menu button (three lines in upper-left corner).
    3. Tap on Devices.
    4. Press and Hold the device to remove.
    5. Tap on 'Remove Device' when prompted.

Android (All other Bluetooth devices): Note: These steps may vary depending on the Android device. Please see the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for instructions.

    1. Open Phone Settings.
    2. Tap on Bluetooth.
    3. Tap on Settings Icon next to the previously paired device(s).
May vary in appearance, but typically displays as a gear icon.)
    4. Tap on 'Unpair' (or something similar).

    • Reboot your phone
    • Clear the cache from the phone (Note: These steps may vary depending on the Android device).

    1. Open Phone Settings.
    2. Tap on Apps.
    3. Tap on Garmin Connect Mobile (Seen as 'Connect').
    4. Tap on 'Clear cache'.
    5. Reboot the phone.

    • Remove the device from Garmin Connect Mobile

    1. Open the Connect Mobile application
    2. Tap on Devices
    3. Press and Hold Device
    4. Remove Device

After you remove the device please pair the devices again and attempt to sync.
Thank you all for being a Garmin customer!

Pairing works perfectly when pairing through Garmin Connect Mobile. I previously tried through phone's own BT settings.

I think there should/could be a note about this in the Fenix 3's screen. I probably am not the only one who does not read manuals. :)

Doesn't work either. How come Fenix isn't phones list of paired BT-devices? Is this the problem, when you pair them thru Garmin Connect? Maybe the problem is in Garmin Connect's software...???

EDIT: I really think that problem is in Garmin Connect. I think in Android Fenix 3 should be visible in phones BT-devices list and paired by that way, and Connect should have permission to use that information? Could it be like that?

EDIT 2: I have had Fenix 5 days now, and pairing works. IF you don't turn BT off. If you do so, devices will not pair automatically again.
You must still pair them again in Connect. And that is sometimes painfully. Sometimes not...
