Live Track Failed

Live track sharing fails, but hiking activity track is accurately recorded.  In the Connect Mobile app, deleted cache, deleted data, deleted shared contacts, deleted Connect app, reinstalled all the previous....still failure.  Did the uninstall/reinstall several times over the past weeks.  All options are turned on in Connect settings, including location.

Worked for many years on my Instinct Solar (current), but started failure a few months ago.  Sometimes shared contact gets no email notification, sometimes just a 1 minute track at the trail head, sometimes a null point at Olathe KA (Garmin).

Tried manual start/stop of Live tracking, no good.  The auto start of Live Tracking works 100%, but sometimes it does not shut off with end of activity.

Talked with Garmin tech support a few months ago, unable to diagnose.

Any thoughts?

  • I use the Garmin Smartdrive 51lmtd and was able to use Smartphone Link "live Track" on my old Galaxy S8+. Since updating my phone to Galaxy s22, the Smartphone link app works but unfortunately not for live track. I do believe it's because I'm running android 16 and the permission to "Allow All The Time" is missing. So sad that Garmin refuse to allow these apps to and older satnavs to be brushed under the carpet because they want us to purchase new.

  • 5351839..Thanks for your interest, and comments.

I am able to use "Google Maps Location Sharing" on my Pixel 9, but that app does not have the same features as Garmin's "Live Track"  I have been around the block with Garmin tech folks, doing factory resets, uninstall/installs, updates, sign-in/outs, etc but am unable to get Garmin tech to respond to the Server/Account issue.  I suspect that this is an elevated tech support person, that is not on the front line.  Keep hoping.

  • Yes, it looks like Garmin are no longer supporting the Smartphone link app because all their new and later satnavs use the Garmin Drive app (I think that's the name of it). For me, it's the location permissions on Android 16, Android have become more stricter on app and location permissions. I haven't given up, iMac out tomorrow and I'll keep on looking for a workaround.
